This episode covers how the eastern Jordan tribes are released to return home, their altar of witness, and Joshua's farewell address and renewal of the covenant.

The completion of the land division, including Joshua's own inheritance, and the faithfulness of God attested.  Here we also find the specific cities of the various tribes in which the Levites and priests were to dwell, an important point with a New Testament connection.
