Jesus warns us not to lay up treasures for ourselves on earth, because earthly treasures can decay, be stolen, distract our hearts, and replace the things that matter most. Work, provision, saving, and planning are not wrong when they serve God-given responsibilities, but they become dangerous when selfish ambition, pride, obsession, or personal gain become our treasure. We must examine what truly holds our hearts and remember that the lasting treasures are not possessions, money, or earthly success, but the things God has given us to steward for His glory, such as our families, our heritage, unity, faithfulness, and eternal purpose.
