We'll explore how it all works and how to make corrections when desires go wrong. In 2 Peter 2:10-14, the apostle Peter exposes the spiritual downfall of false teachers and reveals a truth that affects every Christian: your desires determine the direction of your life. Desire is the engine that drives every decision you make, and when those desires become disordered, they can lead to greed, bondage, spiritual ruin, and ultimately God's judgment. Jesus warns us not to lay up treasures for ourselves on earth, because earthly treasures can decay, be stolen, distract our hearts, and replace the things that matter most. Work, provision, saving, and planning are not wrong when they serve God-given responsibilities, but they become dangerous when selfish ambition, pride, obsession, or personal gain become our treasure. We must examine what truly holds our hearts and remember that the lasting treasures are not possessions, money, or earthly success, but the things God has given us to steward for His glory, such as our families, our heritage, unity, faithfulness, and eternal purpose.
