After missing work in March of 2020, Gretchen began sending text messages to family and friends stating she was very ill and being hospitalized with COVID-19. The texts were suspicious in nature and caused concern for her loved ones so they reached out to police. Based on evidence found at the local hospital, Gretchen's home, as well as the fact that her estranged husband, David, was missing, police went on a man hunt that spanned 1,900 miles away from their home in Florida. Law enforcement and Gretchen's family suspects that David murdered his ex-wife, disposed of her body in an unknown location(s), and sent text messages posing as Gretchen, claiming she was being quarantined and very sick with COVID-19.
