COVID Vaccine Travel Requirements
Welcome world travelers to COVID Travel Update podcast! I created this podcast for those who lead a travel-centered lifestyle. Whether you are a domestic or world traveler, you’ll find current information on the latest openings, closures, what you can and can’t do during the COVID pandemic when it comes to travel. Get the latest COVID travel information and find out where you can safely travel to each week by tuning into the COVID travel update podcast!
In this episode, I’ll give you info on what countries will require COVID vaccination, why cruise lines will require the vaccine and if you’ll need to get a vaccine for traveling inside the United States.
When Should You get a COVID Travel Vaccine?
Based on the CDC website, "You should make an appointment with a travel medicine specialist or your health care provider ideally at least a month before your trip to get needed vaccines and medicines. Even if you're a last-minute traveler, there may be options for getting the vaccines and medicines you need."
"If you need a yellow fever vaccine, keep in mind that it is currently available only at a limited number of clinics in theUnited States. The nearest yellow fever vaccination clinic may be some distance away from where you live, and appointments may be limited. Find the nearest clinic and contact it ahead of time to make sure it has the vaccine."
CDC does not recommend getting travel vaccines in another country because:
Wearing a Mask Even if You’re Vaccinated
Even though I’m vaccinated, it’s not 100% reliable, and there are now three to four different strains of COVID floating about. Since I want to be healthy and safe to travel, I still always wear my mask at home and when traveling to err on the side of caution.
“Vaccinated people will need to follow mask-wearing and safe social-distancing recommendations in public, at least until we reach the herd immunity magic number, which is around 196 million individuals in the U.S.,” says WorkCare’s Harris. The CDC has loosened restrictions for vaccinated individuals in some social settings, mainly outdoors without a large crowd.
Another reason we’ll want everyone to keep wearing masks and take other precautions for the near future, adds Harris: “We don’t want a subsegment of the population walking around without masks in a setting that requires masks to be worn. That’s just such an awkward precedent for the remainder of individuals who don’t have access to vaccinations at this point in time.”
COVID-19 Travel Passport Apps
There’s been talk about mandating a COVID passport, which would note whether an individual has a negative COVID test and if they are vaccinated. While people were rejecting this idea at first, now it’s catching on, and many of the airlines and cruise lines support using a system where people can keep their COVID records electronically and be able to pull them up for proof of verification while traveling. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that “Anything is on the table. Anything is possible, of course.”
The International Air Transport Association is developing a health app. The IATA Travel Pass will allow travelers to store test and vaccination results on their mobile devices. More than a dozen international airlines are testing this new app for use this summer.
CLEAR is collaborating with the creators of CommonPass, developed by the nonprofit Commons Project and the World Economic Forum. This new app will establish a registry of trusted health care providers and a standard format for reporting results. Passengers will be able to take a COVID-19 test at home, send their test to a lab, and have their products uploaded to the CommonPass app. A QR code certifying that they’re clear for entry will be scanned upon their arrival. Eventually, it can and presumably be used to upload vaccination status, serving as an immunity passport.
Although domestic flights aren’t looking at using this app, many international flights consider this option as a health check for travel passengers. And while a COVID-19 vaccination may not be required to board domestic flights, Delta’s CEO Ed Bastian said this type of screening may be exclusive to international travel, “whether the airlines do it or international authorities do it.”
States Requiring COVID Vaccination for Travel
Individual states could require visitors to be vaccinated for COVID-19; in the same way, they need public school students to show proof of vaccinations for certain diseases. Healthcare professionals consider it likely this will be the case, even though it’s going to be a state-by-state process. Some states will elect to mandate vaccinations and proof of immunization.
The public appears to support such requirements: A survey of 2,415 adults by The Points Guy found that two-thirds, 67% of people who are already vaccinated and have a desire to travel, say they are more likely to travel to a destination or with a provider that requires a vaccine passport.
Cruise Lines Requiring Vaccines for Travel
The CDC wants cruise lines to have adequate safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 before they are cleared for travel. Several lines have required that all passengers be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
Crystal Cruises requires that everyone aboard is fully vaccinated for at least two weeks before departure, with no exceptions. “At this time, we are unable to accommodate any guest who cannot be vaccinated,” stated on their website.
American Queen, known for its trips along the Mississippi River, has also declared that all passengers and crew members will need to have been vaccinated for COVID-19. They’ll also need to be tested for the virus before departure. The British tour company Saga announced that travelers will need to have been vaccinated at least 14 days before cruising.

In this episode, I've got Rob Roy from Adventure Bound Podcast. Rob is an active-duty Navy Pilot who recently discovered a passion for the outdoors. Rob and his wife made it a goal to take their firstborn son to 12 National Parks before he turned 12 months old. We chat about National Parks, what they are, how we discovered National Parks, and why you want to visit them!
Zion National Park is a favorite of Rob as this was the first park where he discovered the National Parks. "When we went to Zion I didn't know what it was." Rob visited Zion for a friend's wedding, which helped him understand the National Park System. He loved the greens, trees, and the terrain that results from the mix of desert and precipitation forming the trees against the stunning red rock.
Before he moved to Seattle, he and his wife took west to Washington State to see the Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, and the North Cascades. Out of all the National Parks he's visited, Rob says the wow factor is the best at The North Cascades National Park. "When you're talking about unspoiled, rugged beauty, there's no place like it." Since their original trip, they now live closer, although they would have to make a weekend trip with the three-hour drive to get there.
Listen in to find out why Rob loves National Parks, upcoming travels he has planned, and the one dozen National Parks he and his family went to in the year following his son's birth. Find out Rob's tips for visiting National Parks and why he uses the Outbound App when traveling.

In addition, Delta is now offering new travel digital resources for trip planning, including an interactive travel map to help you plan your next vacation.
Delta Opening Up Middle Row Seat for Passengers
“While Delta’s decision to block middle seats has given many customers a reason to choose Delta over the past year, the signature hospitality of our employees and the experiences they deliver to customers every day have also deepened their trust in our airline,” said Bastian. “The relationships we’ve built, together with the knowledge that nearly 65 percent of those who flew Delta in 2019 anticipate having at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by May 1, are what’s giving us the assurance to offer customers the ability to choose any seat on our aircraft, while also introducing new services, products and rewards to support the journey. We take great pride in the trust we’ve built with customers by listening and delivering on what they said was most important, and that is the approach you can continue to expect.”
New Delta Digital Resources for Trip Planning
Delta is launching new digital resources to make travel planning easier, including an interactive map that is searchable by price and destination type; offering SkyMiles Members the ability to earn up to 75 percent more toward Medallion Status on most ticket types, including Award Travel, in a first for the industry; reintroducing onboard snacks and beverages; and extending the validity of all tickets expiring in 2021 – as well as all new tickets purchased this year – through the end of 2022.
“Our customers have always been the voices that guide us at Delta, and that was amplified during the pandemic,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “During the past year, we transformed our service to ensure their health, safety, convenience and comfort during their travels. Now, with vaccinations becoming more widespread and confidence in travel rising, we’re ready to help customers reclaim their lives.”

Fun Things to Do in Kanab, UT
Welcome world travelers to COVID Travel Update podcast! I created this podcast for those who lead a travel-centered lifestyle. Whether you are a domestic or world traveler, you’ll find current information on the latest openings, closures, what you can and can’t do during the COVID pandemic when it comes to travel. Get the latest COVID travel information and find out where you can safely travel to each week by tuning into the COVID travel update podcast!
In this episode, I’m giving you the 411 on fun things to do in Kanab, Utah! You may not have heard about Kanab, but if you are an outdoor enthusiast, Kanab is a best-kept secret for outdoor fun! With so many slot canyons, hiking trails, and beautiful landscapes, Kanab is a great place to go if you love the outdoors minus lots of crowds.
Balloons and Tunes Roundup Hot Air Balloon Festival in Kanab
For a fun and exciting event, check out Balloons and Tunes Roundup! Held the third weekend in February, Balloons and Tunes Roundup features an outdoor market, festival, and, of course, hot air balloons. Get amazing pictures of these beautiful aviators flying through the Utah blue sky against the red rock of southern Utah, talk to balloon owners and enjoy the excitement of watching hot air balloons travel in the sky.
Outdoor Activity Hiking in Kanab Utah
Dinosaur Tracks hike is 2.9 miles north on 89, hike out through the trail up to the plateau and see real ancient dinosaur tracks of dinosaurs who once roamed across this land millions of years ago! See images of these on my Instagram.
The Wave is one of the most famous photographed hikes with gorgeous strips of red rock hills everywhere! To take this amazing hike, you’ll need to attend the lottery to get a permit to hike The Wave. Definitely obtain a permit as rangers are there to patrol, and the fine is $100,000 for illegal hiking as this is an environmentally sensitive area. The drawing for The Wave permit occurs at 9 a.m. (arrive by 8:30 to fill out an application). If a permit is won, it will be for the following day. In the winter months, the Grand Staircase Office draws for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday’s permits on Friday.
If you miss the Wave permit, check out White Pocket slot canyons. While you’ll need an ATV to get into hike White Pocket is a great alternative that doesn’t require a permit. With either location, we recommend hiring a local guide. You can get there on highway 89 mile marker 01.
Another amazing slot canyon to hike in Kanab is Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon. Head north 8.1 miles on 89. Make a right (road not labeled) onto the turnoff for the Peek-a-boo trailhead. Three miles of dry wash after paved highway. We hired a guide and went canyoneering, which was a blast!
The Toadstools is an easy 1.5-mile hike each way with scenery that looks like you've landed on another planet! Take highway 89 east to milepost 20. Slow down to look for the trailhead as it's right off the road but can be easily missed when traveling at highway speed.
Coral Pink Sand Dunes is a great family-friendly Utah state park where you can get beautiful photographs of Utah sand dunes. Avoid going there in the summer heat!
Squaw Trailhead is a local Kanab hike that is located behind Jacob Hamlin Park. Nice view of the city and red rock from the top of the trail.
Gluten Free Restaurants in Kanab, Utah
There are four restaurants that I would highly recommend visiting when you are in Kanab! First, Vermillion 45 is the only French restaurant in downtown Kanab but is the best French restaurant I’ve been to in the US and has all their gluten-free offerings labeled. Wild Thyme Cafe has excellent American fare and many gluten-free offerings. They have several vegetarian and vegan dishes as well! Rocking V Cafe offers sandwiches and a good selection of gluten-free offerings for the entire family.
Peekaboo Canyon Wood Fired Kitchen has amazing gluten-free wood-fired pizzas and incredible gluten-free desserts that you will absolutely love!

In this episode, you’ll find out what’s open in our National Park System and what amenities are closed due to COVID. Many of our National Parks are open and ready to accept visitors. It’s a great time to go and visit a National Park, monument or site as these places that are normally packed with visitors are not seeing their normal crowds!

If you are planning to travel outside the US, make sure that “Whether seeking wide-open spaces or exploring a historic urban neighborhood, visitors should follow CDC guidance to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and recreate responsibly.”
