COVID19 Testing-Treatment Billing Abuses and a System in Need of Reform

In the midst of this global pandemic, PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, non-partisan organization that provides a voice for consumers—patients, employees, employers, and taxpayers—to have transparency in healthcare. PRA advocates for patients to have easy, real-time access to complete health information and real price transparency. Price transparency will usher in price, quality, and outcomes differentiation and allow for competition and innovation.

Healthcare price transparency is now law, and while some healthcare organizations are resisting, 90% of the American public wanted this put in place! Indeed, hospitals and insurance companies are now required to post their discounted, cash prices and secret, hidden negotiated rates. The federal government is breaking down the barriers, unleashing competition, innovation, and consumer choice – restoring accountability and trust in our healthcare system.

It is more important now than ever, during the COVID-19 pandemic, to put an end to patients being blindsided, overcharged, and even sued by hospitals for bills they cannot afford and prices they cannot see in advance.The inclusion of healthcare price transparency is providing a tremendous stimulus in cost savings for individuals, businesses, and our economy. Thank you to our government for continuing to fight for the American people and for working to make healthcare price transparency a reality.
