  • Using the Alternative Cloud to Modernize Businesses in Thailand

In this episode, we spoke to the founder and managing director of Swiftlet, Arthit “Art” Hongchintakul.

While working in the US, Art realized that there was an opportunity to add value and foster tech talent back home in Thailand by building his own technology company.

So, in 2012, Art launched software development agency, Swiftlet. His mission was to bring tech-driven development and continuous delivery through cutting edge technology to help modernize businesses in Thailand.

Swiftlet’s flagship product is the Terebinth Cloud ERP system. Terebinth digitizes paperwork, accounting, and admin functions for clients who previously couldn’t afford the mainstream ERP systems.

Find out how Linode and the “Robin Hood” of Thailand are bringing the cloud to the masses in this episode of Craft of Code

    In this episode, we discussed:

    • Why Art made the move from the US back to Thailand
    • How Swiftlet’s partnership with Linode has evolved

  • Open Source Digital Learning in the Cloud

In this episode, we discuss K-12 online learning tools with CTO Leo Cunha and CEO Keith Kostrzewski of Curriki.

Online learning tools are often fragmented and expensive. Budget-conscious schools and districts became very aware of this during the global pandemic. Enter open-source education advocate, Curriki.

Emerging from a goodwill project from Sun Microsystems back in 2007, Curriki was well placed to create to take advantage of this gap in the market.

CTO Leo Cunha also saw an opportunity to deliver high-quality, immersive education cohesively and efficiently but that was also easy to use and quick to learn. Curriki also expanded its mission to include the development of CurrikiStudio, the first free and open digital authoring and publishing tool.

Both Leo and Curriki had used Linode before, but could a new relationship with Linode help Curriki achieve their extensive goals?

Find out, as Leo and Keith join me to discuss their passion for open-source, easy to use, and low-cost learning tools and their relationship with Linode.

    In this episode, we discussed:

    • How Curriki sets itself apart in the digital learning landscape
    • Curriki’s passion for open source
    • How Linode supports their goals of providing efficient and low-cost solutions

  • Innovating with Live Streaming

In this episode, we spoke with Joshua Hintze, from Vendoti, about innovating with live video streaming on e-commerce applications.

Joshua Hintze and McKay Christensen originally started their careers in corporate engineering before they started a VR arcade called VR Junkies. As the VR arcade grew, they looked to expand and apply their skill sets in other areas.

They found an opportunity within the network marketing channel that had historically been using Facebook’s live video presentations to sell and resell apparel – a process that was arduous with long lag times.

Josh and McKay entered into a deal with Red5 Pro to create a mobile app that had real-time low latency video streaming and started offering them to network marketers and other marketing organizations, and in 2019, Vendoti was born.

We talk about the journey from VR to e-commerce and how Linode has supported the growth and development of the business.

    In this episode, we discussed:

    • How Josh first encountered Linode
    • His move from corporate engineering to VR
    • How they saw an opportunity within live streaming e-commerce
    • How Linode’s transparent pricing supported Vendoti’s growth
    • The team’s love of the Linode API and global data centers

  • Real-time Streaming Video to Millions in Milliseconds

In this episode, Chris Allen, CEO of Red5 Pro talks to us about real-time streaming video to millions of people in milliseconds.

Red5 Pro got its start back in 2005 when it reverse-engineered Adobe Flash’s Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP), creating an open-source alternative to the Flash communication method, eventually productizing and licensing a paid version. Chris bet early on, that people would care about latency more than anything else, so the company set about trying to solve that.

    The bet paid off.

Today, Red5 Pro can offer live, interactive, and concurrent video experiences at scale. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it catapulted Red5 Pro’s technology to the fore.

Now, Red5 Pro’s customers are no longer limited to broadcasters, but anyone requiring low latency and high scalability for live video. That has included live drone streaming, live auctions, gambling, sports betting, e-sports broadcasting, and more.

With virtual live experiences in even higher demand, what does the future hold for Red5 Pro?

    In this episode, we discussed:

    • The origins of Red5 Pro
    • What significant problems Red5 pro solved for video
    • How COVID-19 accelerated customer need for live video experiences
    • Why Red5 Pro’s customers prefer Alternative Cloud providers over the big three
    • Linode and Red5 Pro’s shared focus on the developer community

  • Reliable PaaS Allows Customers (and Cloudnet Staff) to Do What They Love

In this episode, we spoke to Anders Brundin and Magnus Applequist, founders of Cloudnet, a web-hosting company based in Sweden. Even though you may often find Anders and Magnus snowboarding somewhere high in the Alps, retreating in the sun, or surfing on the shores of Spain, they balance that with providing premium hosting for business-critical websites and applications.

Companies looking for trouble-free experiences at a predictable cost turn to Cloudnet’s high-performing and reliable platform. The company focuses on making life easier for developers by providing managed hosting for WordPress, PHP, Node.js, Java, and Python. Cloudnet also provides exceptional customer service.

Cloudnet has a multicloud strategy that relies on Linode’s data centers in London, Frankfurt, and Newark to support its worldwide roster of website and application developers. In the service mix are Linodes, some Dedicated CPUs, and an occasional bit of load balancing.

So how is it possible for the Cloudnet team to provide exceptional service and still have lives outside of work?

Find out in this episode of Craft of Code.

    In this episode, we discussed:

    • How Cloudnet makes life easier for developers
    • The service philosophy of Cloudnet
    • What Anders and Magnus value most in a cloud partner
    • How Linode helps Cloudnet better support their customers

  • Bringing the Cloud to the Ground

In this episode, we are joined by fellow Philadelphian, Chris Alfano, CTO of Jarvus.

Chris is passionate about open source software and the open source community. That passion led him to reject any notion that there’s an organization too small to design and run their own software.

For proof of that dedication, look no further than Jarvus, the mission-driven software engineering and design firm he co-founded in 2010.

Jarvus has a focus on closing technology gaps. This is the impetus for the company’s ongoing investments in a variety of civic and educational initiatives. Clients like, Slate (an education technology platform), the Civic Cloud, Penn Medicine, N3rd Street Gamers, and the popular Philly Tech Week.

There’s a lot of Philly brotherly love in this episode.

So, join us as we talk to Chris about how Jarvus is fuelling local businesses by bringing the cloud to the ground with the help of Linode services and the Linode Kubernetes Engine.

In this episode of the Craft of Code podcast, we spoke to Feedify founder, Ankur Phadnis about the world of website engagement.

Back in 2017, Ankur Phadnis saw that to stand out online, retailers needed to offer the virtual equivalences of a ‘personal touch’ and to turn browsers into buyers. How? By using website engagement tools, like push notifications.

Today, Feedify manages approximately 300 million push notification messages a day. With 8,000 customers worldwide the company is set to expand what they’ve built in Asia to companies across the globe.

So, join us as we discuss how Linode has supported Feedify’s growth and why Ankur believes Linode’s first-rate support is such a wise investment for entrepreneurs.
