Today’s episode is a conversation with a new friend who feels like an old friend. Kristen is a farmer and I try to stay on track with how farming sparks her creativity but I keep getting side tracks with other topics. Which is just how it is with the excitement of beginning a friendship, isn’t it?

In addition to being a farmer, Kristen is also a beekeeper and adaptive yoga teacher living in an RV on her farm. She is passionate about conservation, bees, the ocean, and is a lifelong learner.

Today’s episode was an absolute pleasure. Lori inhibits creativity with a playful curiosity and you’ll hear that loud and clear in this conversation. She has a very sweet relationship with nature and bees in particular. You’re in for a treat.

A little note about the recording: at one point of the conversation I get disconnected from Zoom and because I missed part of what Lori had said I ask her to repeat. When I tried to edit out this little bit my computer crashed – twice. It made me laugh and I’ve received it as an analogy of how my brain is processing these days – it lags, and crashes, and misses salient parts of conversations. So I stopped fighting with my computer (and my brain) and have left the glitchy bit in the recording. Selah.

Lori is a Vancouver performance-based interdisciplinary artist and educator. She is the author of a book called Victory Gardens for Bees: A DIY Guide to Saving the Bees published by Douglas and MacIntyre. Lori works with students of all ages on eating locally and gardening for pollinators. On occasion, she likes to dress up in silly costumes and talk to bees.

Reconciliation in this instance refers to reparations by the colonizers and justice for the Indigenous people of Turtle Island. Yes, yoga is political.
