  • #41 - Virtue Feed & Grain w/ Tom "Big T" Gale

In this episode I traveled to Old Town Alexandria, VA - a beautiful historic town just minutes from Washington DC - and had the honor of speaking with Tom "Big T" Gale - the Director of Operations at one of the biggest bourbon bars and restaurants in the area, Virtue Feed & Grain! Tom is a Kentucky Colonel, Executive Bourbon Steward, king of one-liners, and named one of Alexandria's most interesting men in 2020.

I'm so thankful for Tom's hospitality and friendship and can't wait to visit again when I'm in the area!

"The historic building that houses Virtue Feed & Grain was once a feed house in the 1800s, bordering historic Wales Alley. A former Alexandria Mayor, Irishman John Fitzgerald, shared ownership of Wales Alley where beer was sold as early as 1786. The alley was named after the brewery owner, Andrew Wales. With re-purposing the building into the restaurant and bar, the name ‘Virtue Feed & Grain’ emerged from the hopeful intentions of those who thoughtfully and virtuously restored and reclaimed a piece of history."

  • #40 - Five Saints Distilling w/ John George

In this episode I traveled to Norristown, PA - just outside of Philadelphia - and had the honor of speaking with John George - founder and distiller of Five Saints Distilling!

I'm so thankful for John's hospitality and can't wait to visit again when I'm in the Philly area!

"Growing up in the Upstate New York countryside provided a childhood of outdoor fun and adventure from nightly football on a neighbor’s farm and swimming with the cows to sledding on Baldy Mountain. John explored on a bike with one pedal (what Freedom!) and spent quality time with his Dad, three uncles and later Giovanni. His first retail sales lesson as a stock boy in a local pharmacy inspired John to become a Registered Pharmacist. In Pharmacy School he spent a day in one of the courses on spirits, manufacturing and proofing. Little did he know back then that he would be putting that experience into practice in the Five Saints Distillery."

I'm so thankful for Paul's hospitality and can't wait to visit again when I'm in the Chicagoland area!

"PAUL HLETKO, FOUNDER & DISTILLER, SAW THE POWER OF PEOPLE FOLLOWING THEIR DREAMS. HE TURNED HIS SIGHTS TO MAKING SPIRITS. HE RELENTLESSLY PURSUED A NEW STYLE OF URBAN WHISKEY THAT WOULD BE THE EQUAL TO THAT OF HIS FRIENDS IN KENTUCKY. BUT CREATING WHISKEY IN THE SEAT OF PROHIBITION? SEEMED LIKE A GOOD PLACE TO START A BOLD, PARADIGM BREAKING WHISKEY BRAND.

  • #38 - Noble Stein Brewing Co. w/ Zach Morrow & Garrett Joiner

In this episode I traveled to Indiana, PA and had the joy of interviewing Zach Morrow - owner and operator of Noble Stein Brewing Co, and Brewmaster Garrett Joiner!

"It all started in a garage. We had both homebrewed before. Then, one day we brought all of our ideas and recipes together.

We started out using home brew kits in a simple five-gallon kettle, but our excitement and want for more grew rapidly. So, we began using a mini brewing system featuring a 20 gallon hot liquor tank, mash/lauter tun, and boil kettle. With a strategically engineered, gravity-fed brewing system, we began experimenting with multiple varieties of hops, malts, yeasts etc. until our beer recipes were perfect.

It was inevitable that the idea of a brewery would cross our minds one day and, when it did, it felt like a noble idea to pursue.

With several years of collective brewing experience, we decided to start brewing with the intent of bringing Indiana the beer they deserve..."

  • #37 - Liberty Pole Spirits w/ Jim Hough

In this episode I traveled to Washington, PA and had the pleasure of speaking Jim Hough - owner and operator of Liberty Pole Spirits! Alongside his Wife and Sons, Jim honors the incredible history of Washington County, PA with one of the first American Industries: Whiskey!

Liberty Pole Spirits celebrates the secret gathering in a meetinghouse near Mingo Creek where colonists vowed not to pay the 1791 Whiskey Tax. They were the first men to oppose an act of the new government, and they vowed to stick together. They called themselves the Mingo Creek Society and paved way for the Whiskey Rebellion to unfold.

As a symbol of their unity, they planted Liberty Poles throughout the county.
