This week's headlines covers the continuing testimony by Hartz Mountain on their plan to build an apartment complex at 750 Walnut Avenue and a proposal to equip Cranford police officers with body cameras.
Holiday events pick up as we move into December and the weekend weather will bring some precipitation but fortunately it will be too warm for snow.
A group of rather unusual characters will be making appearances in Cranford during December. The Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, as well as a cameo by the Grinch are part of the next show at the Cranford Dramatic Club. Seussical is the CDC's holiday show and Cranford Radio paid a visit to Whoville to chat with director Zachary Mazouat, Garrett Hanlon (JoJo) and Zach Love (Horton).
Hope you enjoyed a great Thanksgiving! The actual holiday is over but there's still plenty of holiday activities taking place this weekend including Track Friday and Small Business Saturday. You find details on these stories and more in this week's Cranford Radio headlines.
A look out your window lets you know the top story of the week. It wasn't a lot of snow, but a missed forecast combined with bad timing meant many Cranford residents spent hours trying to get home Thursday evening. On a much more positive note, Downtown Cranford was voted the top downtown in the state in a contest sponsored by NJ.com.
In other signs of winter, the CHS hockey team returns to the ice Friday afternoon and the first couple of holiday events take place this weekend. All this and more in this week's Cranford Radio headlines.
It was a big turnout for the first community meeting on the "Reimagining Cranford Public Schools" proposal Tuesday night and the town has a new interim township administrator. It's playoff season for CHS sports teams and lots of autumn activities in town this weekend but the weather may not cooperate for the first half of the weekend.
More in this week's Cranford Radio headlines.
Batten down the hatches! A nor'easter is headed our way and could bring heavy rain and wind Friday night and Saturday. While you're inside, watch the two candidates for the township committee debate on TV35 and don't forget to vote to make Cranford #1 in NJ.com's contest to find New Jersey's top downtown.
Get details on these and other stories in Cranford Radio's headlines for the week of October 26.
Two continuing stories are once again in the headlines this week. First, additional meetings have been announced to discuss the "Reimaging Cranford Public Schools" proposal put forth by Superintendent Dr. Scott Rubin. This week also saw a continuation of the testimony of the traffic consultant hired by Hartz Mountain for the 750 Walnut Avenue proposal.
The weather forecast for the weekend sounds ideal for autumn activities, but bundle up if you're headed to any of the outdoor CHS sports events taking place this weekend.
The Cranford Dramatic Club is certainly not resting on its laurels as it begins its record-breaking 100th season with "A Few Good Men." Only last month the club was recognized with the NJACT Community Theatre of the Year Award and efforts such as this show why the CDC was honored. Cranford Radio spoke with Matt Burns (Director/Lt. Col. Nathan Jessep), Mike Burdick (Lt. J.G. Daniel A. Kaffee), Joe Leo (Lt. J.G. Sam Weinberg) and Cheryl Sarkaria (Lt. Cmdr. Joanne Galloway) to get a preview.
Some big changes have been proposed for the Cranford Public Schools and Downtown Cranford is being recognized by a statewide planning organization. Those two stories top the week's news.
The football and field hockey teams will celebrate Senior Night this weekend during games and several squads will play in tournament action. The coolest temperatures of the season will be around Saturday but the skies should be sunny for outdoor events including Porchest and the downtown street fair.
If things had taken a different turn, Carol Bryan might have become a cosmetologist, but a job interview led to an insurance career and for the past four years she's run the Carol Bryan Agency for Farmers Insurance in Kenilworth. In our continuing series profiling members of the Cranford Area Chamber of Commerce, we talk to Carol to learn a bit about her life and her business.
