With Comic-Con just 45 days away, I’m excited to introduce Jason Gutierrez to you. Not only is he a 10 year Comic-Con veteran, but Jason is also a Funko Pop Vinyl enthusiast as well as a Hero Within fan. In two months, San Diego Comic-Con returns after a long 3 years! I think I can speak for everyone when I say that one of the biggest experienced missed during the pandemic was this show. It’s not only the return of the the greatest show on Earth, but the return of new episodes of COMIC-CONversations! We kick off this year’s new season with my friend Todd Nauck. Todd is an accomplished comic book artist and has worked on titles like Spider-man, Teen Titans Go, Deadpool, X-Men and more. He’s also been going to Comic-Con since the 90’s so he has lot’s of great stories. In this podcast, we’ll hear his journey as a comic book artist, his first memories of Comic-Con, breakdown some artist alley myths and offer some advice to Comic-Con first timers. After over two years, I return to Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle! During the beginning of the pandemic, ECCC was the first convention to cancel just days prior so it feels good to be back to pick up where we left off. I’ve especially missed hosting panels and while I’ve done some virtual ones, this was one of my first times in front of a live audience in almost a 2 1/2 years! Needless to say, I was a little rusty. However, it helped that I was with such talented guests like content creators Ani-Mia and Chris Sully. The Fantasy Showdown Panel is new for me and it’s a mix of both silly and serious conversations over various relevant topics. Like the rest of you all, we were hoping to post our traditional San Diego Comic-Con Prep podcast. Unfortunately, we have to wait another year since SDCC was cancelled again. Back in 2009, our team posted our very first Comic-Con podcast- time flies while you’re having fun! However, while there have been many amazing shows since then, 2010 was a very special year for Comic-Con. Not only was it the first reveal of the MCU Avengers, it was the year that Comic-Con turned into the modern day pop culture phenom that we know and love. Because 2010 was so special, we wanted to commemorate the show last year for it’s 10th anniversary but postponed it because of Covid. Even though there is no physical show this week, we didn’t want to wait another year to release this podcast. So the gang got together and we reflected on the impact of that show on the next decade of Comic-Con. We also share our ‘first, best and weird’ memories from cons over the years. Creating Content In A Constantly Changing World
The pandemic has given us more time than ever to create content, however, being stuck at home, day after day, has also made it harder to stay motivated. This panel of geek professionals discusses the ups, downs, pitfalls, and opportunities of creating in a “lockdown world.” This panel includes Tony B. Kim (Hero Within), Yaya Han (international cosplayer), and Ming Chen (producer, A Shared Universe).
