Welcome back to the Crazy Joe's Drapery and Blinds podcast - your go-to source for expert window treatment advice in Toronto, Mississauga, and across Ontario.

In this episode we cover one of the most important topics for families with young children - the safety risks of corded window blinds, what Canadian regulations require, and what you can do right now to make your home safe.

We cover:

- Why window treatment cords are one of the leading causes of accidental strangulation in children under five

- What the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act requires for window coverings sold since 2009

- Why many Toronto homes still have older corded blinds that predate these regulations

- The safest options - cordless blinds and motorized blinds - and what makes each one safe

- Interim safety measures if you can't replace corded blinds immediately: cord cleats, cord shorteners, furniture placement

- Which rooms to prioritize first: children's bedrooms, nurseries, and living/play areas

- A note about grandparents' homes and older window coverings

Child safety is a non-negotiable priority at Crazy Joe's. We will not recommend a corded product in a child's bedroom.

We offer free in-home consultations and free measurements across the Greater Toronto Area including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, North York, Etobicoke, Scarborough, Vaughan, Thornhill, Burlington, Hamilton, Oakville, Ajax, Oshawa, Woodbridge, and Aurora.

In this episode we cover exactly how to clean and maintain motorized blinds so they look great and keep working perfectly for years.

We cover:

- Why moisture near the headrail and motor is the number one rule to avoid

- How to dust motorized blinds properly using a vacuum with a soft brush attachment or microfibre cloth

- How often to dust in a Toronto home (and more frequently if you have pets or open windows often)

- Spot cleaning - how to blot stains without spreading them and why you must let the blind dry fully before rolling it up

- What never to do: no direct spray, no submersion, no washing machine, no steam cleaner, no bleach

- How to clean the motor housing exterior safely

- When to call a professional for deep cleaning or mechanical issues

Welcome back to the Crazy Joe's Drapery and Blinds podcast - your go-to source for expert window treatment advice in Toronto, Mississauga, and across Ontario.

In this episode we walk you through exactly how to measure your windows for blinds, step by step. Accurate measurements make everything faster, less expensive, and less likely to go wrong.

We cover:

- Why you need a steel measuring tape (and why apps and fabric tapes don't work)

- The critical difference between inside mount and outside mount - and how each is measured differently

- How to measure width and height at three points (and why Toronto windows are almost never perfectly square)

- How far to extend an outside mount beyond the window frame for light blockage and visual impact

- The most common measuring mistakes: measuring glass instead of the opening, measuring once, ignoring obstructions inside the frame

- Why professional measurement before ordering matters - and what you're actually paying for

Crazy Joe's Drapery and Blinds has been Ontario's trusted window treatment specialist since 1965. We always measure ourselves before placing any custom order.

Welcome back to the Crazy Joe's Drapery and Blinds podcast - your go-to source for expert window treatment advice in Toronto, Mississauga, and across Ontario.

In this episode we tackle one of the most common questions we get - how do you properly cover floor-to-ceiling windows?

We cover:

- Why floor-to-ceiling windows are fundamentally different from standard windows

- Roller blinds and solar shades as the most practical option - and why they disappear when open

- Panel track blinds - the underused solution for very wide windows and full-wall glass

- How to hang drapes correctly on floor-to-ceiling windows (rod height, width extension, pooling)

- The layered approach - combining a solar shade close to the glass with full-length drapes

- Why motorized blinds are practically essential for large windows

- Why professional installation is non-negotiable for floor-to-ceiling windows
