Chef asked me this week, ‘Does anybody actually read these things? Only it seems a bit of an effort for you to imagine you are a café owner who has hired this classy chef that is squandering her talents cooking fry-ups?’

“Of course people read this. And they buy into the whole café story. Now , I need you back in the kitchen as we are approaching rush hour”

“Fair enough”, said Chef. “As I cook, can I put on my ‘Virtues of the Live Recording album?”

“Yes you can. What’s on it”

“Well, side 1 is all soul & funk and it features Curtis, Bill Withers, Sam & Dave, Deborah Manning, Louise McCord, The Staple Singers, Otis, Herbie, EW&F & Jaco. The other side is a little more mixed”

“Let’s play side 1 now and save side 2 till later”

Chef gave us a challenge this week. She is so sick of hearing Slade, Band Aid & Wham (actually I think she quite likes Wham, but then again, who doesn’t) that she asked us to do an hours worth of Christmas songs which she would be happy to.
