On today’s episode of the Let’s Meet for a Beer Podcast, Cam Dobranski joins me as co-host for part one in our series about mental health in the hospitality industry. Today we are joined by Dr. Pratap Chokka, Founder of The Chokka Center For Integrative Health.  

On the podcast, Dr. Chokka talks to us about what we can do to identify signs that someone may need help and how they can access that help.  We also discuss how we can be proactive with our own mental health on a daily basis.

Our goal with this podcast series is to help break through the stigma that prevents many of us from talking about mental health. Thank you for listening to this very special podcast - our hope is that you share this with others and continue the conversation about mental health.

For today’s episode of the Let’s Meet for a Beer Podcast I met up with John Eresman, co-founder of Gradient Beverages, a company that he started with his sister and brother-in-law.  

John is an “introverted” Advertising Creative with a background in Marketing and Copywriting.  His unique perspective on the beverage industry led him to creating Gradient - a ready-to-drink vodka and soda that has 6 different alcohol levels in each box that range from 8% to 2%.   Their entire business is based on the unique concept of modern moderation – a term they created to talk about how drinking less and less through the night can help you keep your night “bright”.

Today we drove from Jasper to Folding Mountain Brewing which is about 20km outside the town of Hinton, Alberta.  When we arrived we were surprised (but very happy) to see that the parking lot was packed!  The brewery has awesome beer, an amazing restaurant and scenic patio so it’s easy to see what attracted all of the people!  We set up the podcast gear in the middle of the restaurant to enjoy the vibe - so you might hear a little extra background noise on this episode.

Aric and Jason are lifelong friends who both grew up in the area.  After moving away to explore the world and go to school, they both eventually returned to their hometown and built this brewery together!  It was really great to see their vision come to life - Folding Mountain Brewing should definitely be a destination on your next road trip!  I hope that you enjoy the conversation.

Today we drove along the beautiful Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper to meet up with Spike Baker, Head Brewer at Jasper Brewing Company.  It was great to connect with Spike and share his story on the podcast.  He is literally living his dream - I asked him where he wants to be in 5 years and he told me that he wants to be doing exactly what he’s doing now!  He loves the town of Jasper and the amazing team they have assembled at the brewery and has no plans of leaving any time soon!

Today we drove to Banff - home of the World’s Most Beautiful Beer Festival (shameless plug) - and the amazing Banff Ave Brewing Company!  I met up with their Head Brewer, Miranda Batterink, to chat about her journey as a brewer and why she loves working in Banff.  We talk about how the brewery has become so connected with the local community and the challenges of working in a tourist destination through the current pandemic.  Aside from initially pulling the fire alarm to try to get out of talking with me (somewhat true story) - I think we had a great conversation and I hope you enjoy!

Brightside and Alberta Beer Festivals have teamed up to create a unique podcast series showcasing unique craft breweries across Alberta.  I recently met up with Christie Pelehos to learn more about Brightside and why they are excited to help showcase Craft Breweries across Alberta through this series.
