Known for her mission: "I create radical spaces of hope that brings GOODness, prosperity, and progress to the world" Dr. Tyra Good is the founding executive director of the Center for Equity in Urban Education and an associate professor of education at Elms College. Her chapter in The Essence of a Woman talks about equity in healthcare, based on her own experience, and then research, as well as her years in finding equity and opportunity for everyone in the world of education.
She is the founder of GOOD Knowledge Connections, an education consulting company. As an advocate for teachers and learners, Good created the Black Educators Network of Greater Pittsburgh, which is a collective voice of K-12, Higher Education, and community educators strategically working to support each other to help ensure the overall success of African American youth from marginalized communities. Good is also a founding member of the State of the Black Learning Conference in Pittsburgh, PA.
She has received a myriad of award recognitions and national fellowships for her dedication in preparing teachers and school leaders to transform learning ecosystems by influencing policies that expand equitable practices in global education.
Good considers her career passion to be soul work and knows that God uses her to advocate for the most vulnerable populations to have access to an equitable education. She is a social justice educator that is dedicated to mission work in her local community and abroad. She received her bachelor’s in business management from Howard University, a master of arts in teaching from Chatham University, and a doctorate in educational leadership and evaluation from Duquesne University.
Good is an author and editor of several publications including two International Best-Selling books in which she writes about reimaging urban education. She serves as an associate editor for Charity in Truth: A Journal of Ethics, Religion, and Culture. The journal is an open-access, peer-reviewed publication focused on original research and scholarship at the intersection of ethics, religion, and culture.
