A giraffe's heart must generate blood pressure roughly double our own just to reach a brain six metres up, yet its heart isn't oversized at all. How does an ordinary pump manage this, and what stops brain vessels from bursting, or pressure from crashing, each time the animal lowers or raises its head to drink?
