Writing fiction is Melanie Dobson’s excuse to explore abandoned houses, travel to unique places, and spend hours reading old books and dreaming up new stories. The award-winning author of more than thirty books, most of those historical and contemporary fiction, Melanie enjoys researching and weaving together inspirational stories including The Wings of Poppy Pendleton, Memories of Glass, and Catching the Wind. Her novels have won five Carol Awards, the ForeWord Religious Novel of the Year, and an Audie Award. Melanie also enjoys teaching creative writing at conferences throughout the Pacific Northwest and as an adjunct professor at Corban University. Jeff Beachy is a volunteer in the Worship Arts Ministry at Rolling Hills Community Church in Tualatin, Oregon. Since 2005 he has been the lighting designer and programmer for worship services and drama productions and he operates lighting on most weekends in addition to serving as the house lighting tech for outside events. He has also served as a service director, video director and camera operator, set designer, and, very occasionally, audio engineer, including about 10 years as a part time staff member at RHCC. His tool of choice is the ETC EOS family of lighting consoles, though he currently uses the Geo @5. His day job is chief technologist at a small enterprise software company in the media industry. Jeff earned a master's degree in electrical engineering in 1985 and has programmed some pretty dreadful Python for work and fun.

Ben Reeves is an accomplished producer and mix engineer based in Portland, Oregon, with over 20 years of experience in both studio and live sound environments. As the owner and operator of Reeves Production, he offers a full range of audio services, from studio production to live sound engineering. Ben’s expertise spans across genres, providing high-quality mixes and production work for artists and clients alike.

Currently, Ben serves as the Front of House (FOH) engineer for nationally touring recording artist Sarah Reeves, where he manages live sound for her performances across the country. In addition, he also handles the live sound at Willamette Christian Church, ensuring flawless audio experiences for both the congregation and musicians.

With a reputation for precision, creativity, and professionalism, Ben continues to make an impact in the Pacific Northwest’s music scene while also supporting artists and churches with top-tier sound engineering.

Kyler Fischer has a B.A. in music performance from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He has performed in various notable concert halls including Disney Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall. His interest in recording arts started at an early age, and by his teenage years he was producing band’s albums. Kyler has recorded and produced dozens of albums in a large variety of styles. Besides being the Production Technician at Rolling Hills, he currently is a local performer, audio engineer, and record lathe engineer, creating hand-crafted records for local and national artists.

Chris Hahn is a seasoned music and live sound professional with over 30 years of experience spanning performance, engineering, and media arts. Beginning as a live drummer in the 1990s, Chris transitioned into studio engineering in the late 1990s, honing expertise in sound design and mixing. In the 2000s, Chris brought these skills to church ministry, collaborating with various churches and nonprofits to amplify their stories and music through innovative live sound and media production.

Currently serving as the Production Director at Red Hills Church in Newberg, Oregon, Chris leads teams in delivering high-quality audio-visual experiences. Beyond this role, Chris is passionate about empowering the next generation of creators. As the leader of a technology-based youth program, Chris provides hands-on enrichment opportunities to inspire young minds and showcase the diverse possibilities within creative technology.

With decades of real-world experience and a commitment to education, Chris brings a unique blend of technical expertise and storytelling to the “Live Sound & Mixing Workshop,” equipping participants with practical skills and industry insights.
