In this episode of How to Be SuccesSoul, I sit down with marketing strategist and creative leader Debbie Shinton to explore a career shaped by reinvention, resilience and purpose.
Debbie began her journey in advertising, starting at The Bridge before rising rapidly through The Leith Agency, becoming one of their youngest Account Directors, working across major Scottish brands. But her path hasn’t been linear.
After experiencing personal loss in her twenties, Debbie made the bold decision to step away from a successful career and travel the world - from the US to Bali, New Zealand, Australia, and Asia - gaining a fresh perspective along the way.
Following time spent raising her family and later returning to agency life, another pivotal moment came in 2020. After the loss of her father and the global reset of the pandemic, Debbie chose not to return to the traditional career path she once knew.
Instead, she followed her passion for creativity, community and culture - ultimately becoming part of the team behind Fringe by the Sea, one of Scotland’s most loved cultural festivals, now attracting over 100,000 visitors each year.
In this conversation, Debbie shares:
How to navigate career pivots and major life transitions.
The role of creativity in building a meaningful life.
Lessons from agency leadership and global experiences.
Why redefining success can lead to deeper fulfilment.
This episode is for anyone considering a career change, returning to work after a break, or searching for a more purpose-driven path.
