"Where do bright ideas occur in our brain? Meta-analytic evidence from neuroimaging studies of domain-specific creativity" by Maddalena Boccia, Laura Piccardi, Liana Palermo, Raffaella Nori, and Massimiliano Palmiero (2015)
This paper from the journal Frontiers in Psychology uses meta-analytic evidence from neuroimaging studies to investigate the neural correlates of creativity in different cognitive domains, namely musical, verbal, and visuo-spatial. The authors performed a general analysis to identify brain regions involved in creativity, then separated those regions into areas specific to each cognitive domain. The results of the study suggest that different types of creativity rely on different brain regions and that creativity in general relies on a multi-componential neural system, with a functional specialization of brain areas dedicated to specific domains of creativity.
