  • Compelling Faith in Uncertain Times - Abraham: Stand and Deliver (Genesis 22:1-19)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, June 12, 2022
Christians are not called to literally lay our children on an altar like Abraham’s near sacrifice of his son Isaac. But his obedience instructs and inspires a correct approach to a contrary and chaotic world. Pastor Steve preaches from Genesis 22:1-19, showing how Abraham’s obedience portrays for us genuine faith and points us to genuine forgiveness. Steve’s message follows a testimony about the impact a youth pastor had on the life of a missionary (https://youtu.be/yEz_WX291vc), as well as an announcement about our upcoming Wednesday night summer series.

  • Compelling Faith in Uncertain Times - Abram: Faith in the Fight (Gen. 14)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, June 5, 2022
Our culture increasingly celebrates perversion, victimizes the vulnerable, cancels the truth-tellers, teaches what is contrary to God’s word in the classroom, and attacks Christian perspectives with prejudice and without impunity. In general, believers are called to gracious restraint under oppression. But should people of faith ever fight for truth in the face of adversity? And what should that look like? Pastor Steve preaches from Abram’s rescue of his nephew Lot in Genesis 14:1-24 and reveals 3 ways authentic faith should guide our approach to a God-glorifying life when the attack comes—inspiring bravery in adversity, humility in victory, and integrity in our actions. Steve’s message follows a prayer for Cornerstone Church in Ames and the families of the victims of the recent shooting there. Steve also presents a particular need for a new hire to focus on youth ministry at Creekside.

  • Compelling Faith in Uncertain Times - Abram: Fabulous Faith (Gen. 9:1-7)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 29, 2022
Compelling faith in God informs, inspires and transforms us into who God wants us to be. Pastor Steve’s first message in our summer series, Compelling Faith in Uncertain Times, studying the faith of Old Testament believers, explores the faith of Abram in Genesis 12. In it we see that Abram received the call of God and rested in the comfort of God, leaving us an example in how we respond to God’s call and trust in His promises in our own lives. Steve’s message follows a prayer send-off for Mark and Mary Bristow, who are headed to Haiti for several weeks beginning this coming Saturday.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Making Disciples is the Main Thing (Matthew 28:16-30)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 22, 2022
At the end of Matthew 18, Jesus makes the point that disciple-making is the main thing. Concluding our two and a half year journey through the gospel of Matthew, Pastor Steve’s message on Christ's Great Commission provides motivation from Jesus’ authority as King, instructions to go, baptize, and teach, and consolation in the fact that Jesus is with us in our mission to make disciples. Steve’s message follows a membership announcement from Norb Metzler and two testimonies from believers prior to their baptism.

  • That's the Spirit! (Romans 8:1-17)
Bob Short :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 15, 2022
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Christians are saved from the penalty of sin, but also freed from slavery to sin. Bob Short’s message from Romans‬ ‭8:1-17 serves as a reminder of the freedom believers have through the power of the in-dwelling Holy Spirit of God.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Jesus: Master or Deceiver? (Matthew 27:57-66)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 8, 2022
How we treat a person after they’ve died indicates how we valued them when they were living. By some Jesus was esteemed, and by others, as demeaned.
Pastor Steve's message about Jesus’ burial in Matthew 27:57-66 reveals two possible and contrasting responses to the person of Jesus that inspire boldness, instill confidence, indict and invite those who don’t know Jesus to reconsider the message of His empty tomb and His offer of salvation.
Steve's message follows a song from a special Mother's Day choir, and a recognition of and prayer for two Creekside graduates (Cora McLaren and Shera Smith) as well as new Creekside members Aaron and Cara Jones.

  • Where Are the Men? (Mark 14: 26-72)
Micah Tuttle :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 1, 2022
Creekside’s centenarian Gene Arns, a few days before his 103rd birthday, began the service sharing what God’s accomplished in his life. Inspired by Gene’s testimony of a life well-lived, missionary Micah Tuttle abandons his planned sermon from Revelation 22 for a more relevant message from Mark 14, asking “Where are the men?” Micah preaches an urgent warning from the account of Peter’s gradual, step-wise drift away from the Lord due to pride, a neglect of prayer and scripture, following Jesus at a distance, and taking comfort in the world. Though we may fall like Peter, God doesn’t leave the penitent believer there. Peter broke down and wept, and was restored to a man with courage and faith.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Truly This Is the Son of God (Matthew 27: 45-56)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, April 24, 2022
“Truly this was the Son of God.” Pastor Steve preaches on three aspects of Jesus’ death recorded in Matthew 27:45-56 that led to this Roman centurion’s conclusion. In the death of Jesus, the visceral realities, visible results, and viable responses confirm Him as the Son of God and savior of the world, compelling us to receive Him to gain life or reject Him to lose it.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Resurrection: Fact or Fiction?
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, April 17, 2022
If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, the Christian faith is mere fiction. If Jesus physically and historically rose, we have to deal with that fact. Pastor Steve’s Easter Sunday message from Matthew 28:1-15 presents three lines of evidence that provide compelling proof for the resurrection, confirming Jesus as the Messiah, comforting believers, and calling doubters to embrace Christianity. Steve’s message follows a special Easter musical presentation by Creekside’s Generation Jesus youth worship band, with a choir rendition of "Because He Lives' closing the service.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - The Agony of Calvary (Matthew 27:27-44)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, April 10, 2022
In Matthew 27:27-44, Jesus endured the mockery of Roman soldiers, the brutality of the cross, and the hostility of the cynics. In a Palm Sunday message actually better suited for Good Friday, Pastor Steve preaches about these various forms of agony Jesus experienced at Calvary and encouragement for unbelievers to embrace God’s mercy. They should also move believers to exalt in God’s grace, extend themselves in service, and endure hardship like Jesus.
