Workshop 2
Today, I invited my friend Elizabeth to join me in discussing how these previously discussed topics expand to the realms of our world today. With the surge of the Black Lives Matter Movement, I felt it appropriate to relate some of these themes within crime fiction novels to present-day relationships with cops and within the justice system.
On this episode, I focus on the relationship between black characters and figure of authorities...or the lack of one. In discovering more about contrasting narratives between these books, I uncover themes about how the justice system or superior figures are portrayed and why.
In this first episode, I will be analyzing the strategies that authors use in their depictions of black characters in crime novels. I also asked my friend, Olivia, for her insight on the complexities that these themes raise.
