We talk about the Oscilloscope Circle of Trust program, the upcoming releases from Kino and specifically the Pioneers in Women’s Cinema set and how that complements the Flicker Alley Early Women Filmmaker’s Set. Matt and Travis from The Complete Podcast return to the show. Travis had worked on Castle Rock and has been enjoying watching the reaction as it unravels, so we spent some time talking about our impressions. We talk extensively about the Dietrich and Sternberg boxset, speculate whether the Wong Kar Wai set is ever really happening, talk some Charles Burnett, Orson Welles, John Ford, Cocteau, Resnais, Schrader, and plenty more.

Cole and Ericca join to dish about the November 2018 Announces, which were surprisingly strong even with the Bergman box having already been announced. We also get into the Teal controversy with certain films, and Cole gives a spirited take on the issue. We talk at length about the coolness of John Waters and Sam Fuller, the Canadian Film Board, and even Susan Seidelman. Excuse the massive storm during the latter third of the show. Can’t avoid nature sometimes.

Aaron West and Mark Hurne first started podcasting together 3-years ago. Over that time, a lot has changed and a lot has stayed the same. Still friends, still podcasting together, still having a great experience. We indulge somewhat on this episode and get away from the typical format. Aaron is joined live in Toronto with filmmaker, Brad McDermott, and TIFF Programmer, David Van Poppel. They talk about the Canadian film scene and retrospective screenings including the summer of Japanese film and Visconti. They were all able to see Belle de Jour in 4k at TIFF and share their thoughts, and discuss the latest in Criterion news.
