Critter Chronicles: Real Stories From Veterinarians

Consider this a great lost episode of Critter Chronicles! This was recorded a lifetime ago back in September of 2021, and then life got in the way of this podcast. Well, it is finally time it sees the light of day! Michelle was a wonderful host who shared many stories about her career in mixed practice in Southern California. It was a really fun interview, and I'm glad I finally have been motivated enough to get it out to your ears! Note: there's some interruptions from my son in this podcast, and to be honest, it just sounded even clunkier when I tried to edit them out. My bad. That's a good taste of why there was a big 'ol pause on new episodes :) Sorry. 

This episode we are joined by Dr. Sarah Finney, a 3rd generation mixed animal veterinarian from Ohio. Dr. Sarah was a member of the OSU Class of 2018, which unfortunately has lost two members due to suicide. Sarah is kind enough to share her mental health journey and encourage others to reach out if they need help.

Today we are joined by Dr. Christina Frick, veterinarian, mom, and social media poster on the YouTube Channel DVM Mom and Farm Girl Frick (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0NgyxhMdZL7gCouXEF9qXA). She joins us tonight to share some stories from her 21 year career as a vet, from building a practice from scratch to some funny stories about her family. 

Dr. Sonya joins us this week to discuss her veterinary journey. She is a veterinarian from Louisiana who has taken a few different journeys in her career, from her children to starting a practice to starting a career in chiropractic medicine. This was a neat episode that taught me a lot about the world of chiropractics in veterinary medicine, as well as some great story telling from Dr. Sonya's time in practice!

Today we are joined by Dr. Jackie Lee, a young veterinarian who recently made a change to a new practice in the Vermont/New Hampshire region. She shares some stories about becoming a vet, and some of her misadventures learning how to practice on the side of mountains rather than the flat parts of Ohio.

Being a young veterinarian and owning a clinic, you expect certain challenges. Hearing the words "you have cancer" typically isn't one of them. Join us this episode with Dr. Lynne Acebey as she discusses how she overcame her diagnosis, the lessons it taught her, and how it has impacted her life in veterinary medicine. Today we are joined by Dr. Carol who is currently a practicing small animal emergency veterinarian, but previously held roles as a large dairy veterinarian in California, as well as a mixed practice veterinarian in Wisconsin. She shares some stories and reasons for changing her career. Another entertaining episode that had me laughing!

Joining us this week is one of my very best friends from vet school, Dr. Maria! She discusses her unique path to becoming a DVM, some great memories from veterinary school, and some fun stories from her small animal career.

Joining us today we have Dr. Meredyth Jones, a food animal internal medicine specialist from Oklahoma State University (not to be confused with the real OSU found in Ohio). She shares some fun stories from practice and gives a different perspective from her time as not only a veterinarian, but also a teacher.
