Cross Border Interviews

Fair Vote Canada is a national non-partisan citizens’ campaign for proportional representation. We are a grassroots advocacy organization as well as having extensive expertise in electoral reform. Incorporated as non-profit in 2001, we have volunteers across the country.

Proportional representation is a principle: That seats in a legislature should match the popular vote. All models of proportional representation for Canada also retain strong local representation.

The way back to God, or to one’s religion, is often found first by finding a way to be true to oneself. With that, Canadian Christian pop artist Danah-Lee pulls back the curtain on such a journey in her cello-studded, piano-infused new single, “Home To Myself” — available now.

Arriving ahead of the artist’s forthcoming new album, Made In The Image — coming this Spring — ”Home To Myself”s chorus is simple but powerful and heartfelt: “I’m coming home to myself.”

And the process of coming home is one the Ottawa Valley, ON-based artist knows personally, having struggled with her sexuality in the context of her faith.

“For years, I grappled with being a Queer within the Church, and carried tremendous guilt – eventually deciding to stop worshipping God through song, because I did not feel worthy as a Queer,” she shares. “After choosing to love myself as a child of God, I rediscovered my faith and I believe there is a place for everyone in the kingdom of God.”

“Home To Myself” begins with bell-like piano and vocals that cascade like clear water. Introspective cello joins the mix, along with warm, honeyed harmonies blending Danah-Lee’s crystalline vocals with the rich, deeper tones of backing singer Jeremy Hardy.

Kourtney Penner was elected councillor for Ward 11 in the Calgary General Election on Oct. 18, 2021.

Kourtney Penner has roots and chose to live in Ward 11 with her family. As a community-minded leader she believes it is important to support community-building initiatives. With a strong value in relationship building, she knows projects succeed when we choose a mindset of working together, approaching challenges to find balanced, positive outcomes, and by using data to support decision making.

As a mom with school aged children and parents and grandparents in the city, Kourtney knows neighbourhoods need to balance the needs of residents across the stages of their lives. As a leader in the technology sector, she knows a thriving economy is vital to the city and creating a sustainable future is important to our global position.

As part of Kourtney’s practice with all the organizations she has served – she has brought this mindset to the table and continually asks these questions:

How can we positively affect (or least harm) the most amount of people?

What opportunities exist for different stakeholders to come together to create the most desirable outcome which may involve compromise?
