  • Round Table Discussion - What Does It Mean To Be A Zionist?
Earlier in June, we held a political discussion about the Green Party of Canada, and in that conversation I expressed my views that "Israel had that right to defend itself".
Since that show aired I was called a Zionist, and had one person say I supported genocide of the Palestinian people.
As someone who has never really understood what a Zionist meant, I reached out to Ariella Kimmel to get her take on the word, and help break down some of the questions I had over being a Zionist, the rise of anti-semitic hate in Canada, and why no political party is perfect in it's support of the state of Israel.

  • Season 2 Season Finale - Jacquie Fenske
Jacquie Fenske is passionate about bringing people together to build friendships and talk about big ideas. That’s why she is excited to be the new Acting Leader of the Alberta Party.
Of course, Jacquie isn’t just a fantastic hostess. She is also an entrepreneur, educator, and experienced leader.
As a teacher, Jacquie spent over a decade creating great classrooms for junior and senior high students. Then her attention shifted to serving all ages as she entered civic politics. Jacquie spent over 13 years on Strathcona County Council before being elected an MLA for her riding.
Today, Jacquie is an active manager of Fifendekel Pie Shops Cafes in Edmonton. She’s also serves as the chair for Elk Island Community Futures and a board member with the Silver Skate festival.
Her life has been dedicated to building vibrant communities. And she’s found success due to her abilities to mentor and motivate while drawing people together.
Jacquie’s got what it takes to build the Alberta Party and give voice to the 172,000 Albertans who voted for us last election. She’s going to bring energy and experience to this role. Our only concern: she won’t have nearly as much time to make that great pie.

  • Vol. 2 Ep. 57 Kathy Valentine
Kathy Valentine has been a working musician and songwriter for over 40 years, starting her first band in her hometown of Austin and making a name for herself in the iconic band the Go-Go’s after moving to Los Angeles.
The Go-Go’s are considered the most successful all-female band of all time and made music history for writing and performing the first and only album by an all-female band to top the charts. Kathy wrote or co-wrote some of the band's most renowned tunes, including the hits "Vacation" and “Head Over Heels.”
Signing with the esteemed University of Texas Press to write a memoir fulfilled Kathy’s dream to be a published author. Her first book, All I Ever Wanted: A Rock ‘N’ Roll Memoir will be released in spring 2020. Taking an innovative approach and intersecting her storytelling with her songwriting skills, Kathy has written, performed and recorded a soundtrack of fully original songs and music to accompany her memoir.
Valentine returned to live in her hometown of Austin, Texas in 2006 and has found a variety of new and on-going opportunities as a keynote speaker (The American Heart Association Go Red-2015, Kids in a New Groove-2016,) writer, spokesperson (Brookside Chocolate-2018, Rainbow Light Supplements-2015,) actress (The Transcendents-2018) and as a mentor and producer. In 2017, Kathy created the “She Factory,” an event series to raise money for women-centered non-profits.
Meanwhile, the Go-Go’s have continued to build upon their legacy with a feature length documentary that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews. The Go-Go’s will tour the U.S in summer 2020. The band also became Broadway composers when the musical “Head Over Heels” debuted on Broadway in 2018. It is currently in production at hundreds of companies throughout the U.S.
Music is always first and foremost in her creative pursuits and at 61 years old, Valentine still shows up for gigs with her guitar in the Austin-based all-female rock band The Bluebonnets, or increasingly, as a solo performer. Returning to Austin also gave Kathy a chance to pursue her first college degree and is one semester away from graduation. And finally, her greatest pride and joy is being a mother to her teenage daughter.

  • Vol. 2 Ep. 56 The Prairie States
Mixing the old with the new, The Prairie States was born out of a desire to put a fresh touch on a classic design. As seven time Country Music Alberta Award recipients, including the 2018 Rising Star, 2019 Horizon Group/Duo Of The Year, and 2020 Songwriters Of The Year, as well as 1st place in the 2018 Project Wild Artist Development Program, it’s proof that this Edmonton based band is moving in the right direction.
Mat Cardinal, Jeff Dick, Mike Nash, Doc deGroot, and Jay Der formed The Prairie States in 2017 and immediately started writing songs for their full length album, Lost In The Right Direction. Independently released in June 2018, it was nominated for the CMAB Album Of The Year and included three radio singles, which all broke the top 100 Mediabase Canadian Country Chart. Since then, the band has released two more singles, Every Little Town and Low Life, both of which also cracked the top 100.
To go along with the release of Low Life, the band teamed up with Edmonton based Sea Change Brewing Co to create a custo m branded beer called Low Life Lager. The brewery made 17000 tall boys of this perfect summer sipper which included a Spotify QR code so the person enjoying the beverage could also “Scan The Can” to instantly hear Low Life.
Their latest single, High That I’m Riding, produced by Juno and CCMA winner Bart McKay, is a euphoric Country rocker that gallops headfirst towards the indescribable feelings that only the one you love can ignite inside you.
The Prairie States have been out on the road and wowing crowds with their undeniable live show. In their short time as a band, they’ve shared stages with Aaron Goodvin, Clayton Bellamy, and most recently Brothers Osborne and Canadian legend Charlie Major while kicking off the 2019 Big Valley Jamboree.
Ready with a stack of brand new recordings underway with Bart McKay, this band shows no signs of slowing down.
