"...for God has put all things in subjection under His feet."  1 Cor 15:27

Wouldn't you know? Some so-called 'teacher' in the church at Corinth was insisting that "there is really no such thing as a resurrection." There are Christians today (so-called) who will argue the same point. But if there is no resurrection, why have a church at all? Paul fiercely refutes the notion today.

The Church at Corinth was a confusing place. Their message was muddled. The purpose and the 'point' of their church was unclear. Various groups were vying with each other for supremacy and the lost, unbelieving world outside was never going to 'get it'. Paul writes this chapter with a deep sense of alarm. After all, dear Christian, this is 'battle'! And we had better be ready!

Here in our text this morning, Paul lists 15 things that love does and doesn't do and--guess what?--it's a perfect description of Jesus Himself! May it describe us all as well!

The 13th Chapter of First Corinthians is one of the most beautiful pieces of literature ever written. How amazing that it came from the pen of a missionary rabbi, who was simply trying to instruct his churches! Of course, Paul wasn't the real author of it. Every beautiful word has been breathed-forth by the Spirit of God! We're just testing the water this week, but get ready for a very deep plunge.

 By its very definition, a machine has no unnecessary parts. The same is true for the human body and--oh!--supremely true for the Body of Christ! You, who have been called by Christ, and baptized into His Spirit, are a part! A 'necessary' part! You belong! And that's wonderful news!
