Watching for Wolves

"Wtch out for false prophets...inwardly they are ferocious wolves." Mt 7:15

Our sinful, fallen world is having a love affair with falsehood! the people of God have never been free from the struggle to hold on to the truth. So we shouldn't be surprised when Jesus warns us to watch out: "be on your guard against false prophets...for inwardly they are ferocious wolves."

Every choice of every day finds us...

At the Crossroad

"But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Mt 7:14

"All roads lead to Truth" people are fond of saying. But jesus tells us that there are really only two, and only one of them is right! He didn't even leave it up to us to figure out which is which! "The narrow one is right," He tells us, 'take it!" This morning, we will take Him at His word!

"It is easier to be critical than it is to be correct, "Benjamin Disraeli once observed. That is actually true to all of us! We all suffer from a kind of spiritual 'far-sightedness': how keenly we see the faults of others and rarely see our won! 'Judging others' is a hazard that every Christian must avoid.

"Hypocrisy pays ample wages," wrote Martin Luther of this time, "While truthfulness goes begging." It's true of our day too; and that's something Jesus warns about, as He continues with His sermon. When we practice our righteousness for the applause of men, the 'wage' has already been paid!
