What would you tell your children about marriage right before they said, “I do”?
David and I have now had the privilege of watching three of our children get married, including one just last weekend! And before each wedding, we’ve made it a point to sit down individually with our son or daughter and their future spouse for a very honest conversation about marriage.
I’ll admit, the kids aren’t always thrilled when we first suggest these conversations. ???? But there are some things we want them to understand about building a healthy, biblical marriage—things we’ve learned through our own marriage and through years of walking alongside other families.
In this episode, we’re inviting you into that conversation.
We’re talking about what Ephesians 5 teaches us about love and respect, why honesty and keeping short accounts matter so much, and why it’s important to keep investing in your marriage long after the wedding day.
We also discuss something Christian couples don’t always talk about openly: God’s good design for physical intimacy within marriage.
Whether you’re preparing for marriage, raising children, or entering a new season after your kids have grown, we hope this conversation encourages you to invest intentionally in the relationship that started your family.
In this episode, we discuss:

Resilience is a life skill we need for the inevitable struggles we will face in this life — but we must be intentional about learning this skill. Valorie has identified some key “rules” for resilience — like “expect the unexpected,” and “focus on the vision, not the obstacle.” And “control the controllable and accept the rest.” Prepping ourselves beforehand to learn and live more resiliently helps us be more confident, content, and successful when difficult situations happen.

Today, I am over the moon to welcome one of my very favorite guests back to the show. She’s been on the show and visited us in RAR Premium several times over the years and I always love our conversations.
You know her as the author of some of your kids’ favorite books, like the Mercy Watson series, The Tale of Despereaux, and Because of Winn-Dixie. That’s right, Kate DiCamillo is back!
She’s here to tell us all about the brand-new, absolutely gorgeous 20th anniversary edition of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. I don’t know about you, but I have a weakness for collector’s editions and friends and I know I’m going to be putting this one on my keepers shelf and I think you will too.
In our chat, we talk about writing to serve the story, not to please others, the real-life gift that inspired The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and lots more!
