He's a familiar voice, often heard in interviews discussing threats to religious freedom.In 2025, the South African CRL Rights Commission (CRL)has reignited controversy by renewing its efforts to regulate religious organizations, following a push that was rejected by Parliament in 2018. In April 2025, the CRL established a "Section 22 Committee" to pursue state regulation of religion via a "peer review council," which has prompted renewed backlash from religious groups citing potential threats toreligious freedom.
