The world and we continue today because of God’s covenant of mercy that He made with Noah. After God’s judgment, there is His promise of mercy. But we are also reminded in Scripture that there is an even greater judgment coming: a judgment of fire, not of water.

In this sermon, we cover the scope of the narrative that records the worldwide flood during Noah’s days and God’s salvation through the Ark. When the world was filled with sin, a holy God purged the world of sin with a flood. God will go to extreme measures to bring about the holiness He desires and requires.

In Genesis 6:1-9, we see some new mysteries: Sons of God, Nephilim, God’s designating of 120 years . . .. We also see the vast wickedness of mankind. Then, we see Noah, a righteous, blameless man who walked with God. But for all the righteousness of Noah, we have more: we have the righteousness of Christ.

In this passage we see two things: 1) the spread of sin through Cain’s line and 2) the sustaining of a Godly line through Seth. Praise God for his mercy: from the line of Seth, we get Christ.

Many of us are familiar with the historical story of Cain and Abel, but in this sermon we stop to consider the the divide between Cain and Abel’s offerings. Why was one acceptable and the other not? And May we not overlook goodness and mercy of God as he warned and corrected Cain.

We continue our journey through Genesis and see in scripture “The Fall” of Adam and Eve. We hear, too, the first promise of the coming Messiah.

God created all things and called it all “good.” Marriage was created by God, and scripture points us to the realization that God’s intent for marriage is that it has a grander reality than what most of us believe. Marriage in this life is a picture of the Eternal Marriage of Christ and His Bride (the Church).

It’s often hard for us to imagine not only how good all of God’s creation was, but also to wrap our minds around how constantly and consistently good God was to Adam before Adam and Eve rebelled. From the beginning every intent of God toward Man was good, and we see that in Genesis 2. The heartache, brokenness and sorrow we have today is the result of sin and was NOT part of God’s original design for Man.

We begin our new book series in Genesis. There is a richness of doctrine in Genesis that shapes the rest of the Bible, and we find the roots of the Gospel in Genesis as well. But we begin today with observing the beginning of all creation and seeing that God Alone is sovereign over all creation.
