A great deal of the trouble we see in the world is rooted in FEAR. It's expressed in other ways, such as anger, but fear is the real issue.

Sunday, we will hear from David again in Psalm 56. After an experience that probably made him sick with fear, he wrote a song about what he learned.

PERSEVERANCE

That’s our next sermon series, beginning this Sunday! Perseverance is a huge theme in the Bible. Without it, nothing of eternal importance will be done. A great place to start learning how to persevere is the book of Hebrews. The Christians who received that letter were under pressure to fade and quit, just like we are.

I quoted that first way back in March, on what turned out to be the last ordinary Sunday we had before the pandemic changed everything.

I have gone to that verse again and again since then, and I have also heard many Christians quote it. I’ve also seen a few people misuse it online.

COURAGE

You'd probably have to be a seminary graduate to miss such an obvious idea, but it recently struck me that the many people in Scripture who were told to not be afraid and to be courageous instead must have been quite fearful. They were obviously about to act like cowards or it would not have been mentioned!

Beginning this Sunday, I'd like to explore some of the stories of the courageous people in Scripture. We can learn how to be courageous from their example. Fearful days call for courageous Christians, so let's learn together!

At this point, even the subject line is probably distasteful! When I am suffering I am not very interested in going or growing through it. I just want it to be OVER.

But, as we are all reminded every day, we don't get to choose what we endure - only how we endure it.

This Sunday, I will close this series with a wonderful promise regarding what God will do for us. Read 1 Peter 5 once more and be ready to join us, either in person online. The Sunday services are at 9:00 and 11:00a.

I am revisiting a passage in 1 Peter that has been a great comfort to me since I was a college student.

It's timely: the apostle Peter wrote to suffering Christians and told them HOW to go through suffering.

We can't choose WHAT we go through; we have the God-given ability to choose HOW we go through it.

I encourage you to read the entire epistle of 1 Peter and dwell on 1 Peter 5:6-11.
