The Bible tells us in Psalm 62 that our hope, and it’s real hope, comes from God. But what in the world does hope have to do with stress? Well, if you’re like most, you stress a lot more over the unknown than the known, over what you can’t see than what you can. The scripture tells us again in Hebrews 11.1 that “faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (NIV) So would you live less stressful if you knew that what awaits you around the corner is going to be good for you? That your future can be more fruitful and fulfilling than your past has been? Absolutely, we all would! Stress... it’s a Killer - Letting Worry WinBehind genetics, stress is the next leading cause of heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. So what does that say about a society where those maladies are becoming more and more common and at earlier ages? For one, it says that advances in medicine, technology, productivity and about everything else that should make life easier and less stressful isn’t doing that. It also says that whatever we’re doing to try and alleviate the stress doesn’t seem to be working either. So what do we do about it?

When we’re in the wilderness, facing adversity, walking through the storms of life, facing trials, tests and temptation, wouldn’t it be great if we had a safe word a password or something that could “86” our enemy the devil? Something we could say or sing or pray that would get us through that particular battle and out of the tunnel to the other side? Good news. There is, and it’s closer than you think. The Word of God, the Scripture, the Bible has the exact words we need, and not so we can just crawl out or limp away, but walk out with some resolve in our countenance and confidence in our hearts. So how can we know when, where, and how to use it?

Winning in the Wilderness - Our Common ProblemSome things are common to everyone, birth and death, pleasure and pain, love and loss, to mention a few. One thing stands out though as a problem common to us all and that’s temptation. For some, it’s alcohol or drugs or pornography. For others, it’s food or the desire for control. Regardless, because we have a common enemy in the devil coupled with the problem of consistently being our own worst enemy, those battles with temptation can sometimes seem unwinnable.
