Joshua - LESSONS IN LEADERSHIP - The EssentialsMost people usually see leaders as someone with a title, someone in charge and, while that can be the case, in reality we’re all leaders at some level and in certain aspects of life. If it’s your call, for example, in what makes its way to the grocery list, you’re a leader there. Or perhaps what stays and what goes when the garage gets cleaned out, you’re the leader there. If you’re a parent, you’re a leader. If more than one person is involved in an activity, whether it’s dinner, or shopping or anything else for that matter, someone has to initiate the activity, the time, the place, the transportation, etc. You see, we all make decisions that “leaders” make every day, that just might not seem to be as significant as what we would normally associate with “leadership” but they are providing it in those situations nonetheless.Years ago, leadership guru John Maxwell said at the end of the day that leadership boils down to influence and whoever has the most influence in a given situation is the leader there. The next time you see several kids playing together either inside or outside or on a playground, stop and watch them and within 3 to 5 minutes, you should be able to tell who the leaders are. They are the ones with the influence.On Sunday, we begin the new year with a new series of messages centered in the book of Joshua, who was one of the more effective leaders in all of scripture. The things he learned from God, and from his mentor Moses, about leadership will help every boss, every parent, every friend, everyone who deals with people (which is pretty much all of us) see what effective leadership entails.
