God has been extremely patient with Israel for hundreds of years, but He has finally hit His breaking point this week in The Story. Israel is punished for their sins of idolatry with the takeover of Babylon. He appoints watchmen and prophets to give the people warnings, but they are completely ignored and God's wrath is poured out. But this isn't the end for God and His people. Hosea was called by God to marry a prostitute so that his life could be a message to the nation of Israel from God. Israel was grasping for salvation in anything they could get their hands on other than God - predominantly exemplified in their worship of false gods and idols. God shows through Hosea's life example that he ultimately wants a relationship with the spiritually adulterous nation.

There are two main denials we can have when it comes to God...

Denial of a one true God.

Denial of anyone else who worships the one true God.

Elijah dealt with both religious denials. We face them today but God wants to show us how to overcome them.

Israel was at its "high point" with Solomon's reign but oh, how the mighty fall once pride sets in. Their pursuit for more (stuff, power and influence) corrupted them just like God said it would and they start the downturn, leading up to the Exile. How can we guard against pride and stay humble, ready to serve the King?

Solomon was a good king of Israel, one that asked for wisdom and accomplished his missions during his reign (including building the temple, judging the people, accumulating wealth and peace, etc). In what ways can we do something with our life but still have it end up being nothing?
