June 30, 2026 Robby Plemmons: Jesus The Word of God
John tells you why he wrote his Gospel, and he does it near the end. Jesus
did many other signs that are not written in this book, but these are
written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,
and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Everything in John is selected toward that. It is not a biography trying to
be complete. It is a case being made.
One thing this sermon clears up in passing: Christ is not a surname. It is
a title - the Greek behind Messiah, the anointed one, God's chosen. Jesus
the Christ.
Then there is the opening, which starts neither with a birth nor a
genealogy but before both. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. All things were made through him. In him
was life, and the life was the light of men.
Matthew starts with Abraham. Luke goes back to Adam. John goes back further
than there is a back to go.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

June 29, 2026 Robby Plemmons: Kingdoms Collide
Matthew opens his Gospel with a genealogy. Forty-one generations before
anything happens.
Most of us skip it. In the West what matters is who you are becoming, not
who you came from. This sermon makes that concrete with a letter that
arrived that week from one of his father's high school classmates, full of
stories about what his dad had been like as a student. Reading it felt like
reading about a stranger. His sister said exactly the same thing without
being prompted. Their father had never talked about it, and they had never
cared enough to ask.
Matthew's first readers would have felt the opposite. To them that list was
the most exciting introduction imaginable, because of what it claims: Jesus
Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Both of those men received promises. Abraham was told to leave home for a
land he could not see, and that through his offspring the whole world would
be blessed. David was promised a throne without an end.
Matthew's Gospel runs on a single theme - promise and fulfillment - and the
genealogy is him laying the receipts on the table before he tells the
story.
The list is not the boring part. It is the claim.

June 28, 2026 Robby Plemmons: Right Place Wrong Time
Thirteen chapters in one sermon, covering the last stretch of Genesis and
the life of Joseph.
It begins with a family nobody should envy. Jacob loved one wife and
tolerated the other. He loved one son visibly more than the rest and gave
him a coat to prove it. Joseph, seventeen and not yet wise, brought his
father bad reports about his brothers, then told them his dreams - sheaves
bowing to his sheaf, the sun and moon and eleven stars bowing to him.
They hated him and could not speak peacefully to him. Even his father
rebuked him over that second dream.
The sermon makes a point worth holding onto: the Bible is describing this,
not endorsing it. Scripture is not always prescriptive. Here it shows
plainly what favoritism does to a household, and lets the wreckage speak
for itself.
Out of that family comes slavery, false accusation, prison, and eventually
a man standing second in Egypt with his brothers in front of him.
The word for what holds it all together is providence - God working through
events he never approved.
Right place, wrong time. Or the reverse, depending on who is telling it.

June 27, 2026 Robby Plemmons: The Tower of Babel
There is a strange and documented phenomenon in which a head injury leaves
someone speaking a language they never spoke before. A sixteen-year-old in
Atlanta was kicked in the head during a soccer match, spent a day in a
coma, and woke up fluent in Spanish - with his English badly diminished.
Now imagine waking tomorrow to find your husband speaks one language, your
children another, your neighbor a third, and the person at the checkout a
fourth. Not inconvenient. Disorienting at the root.
That is Genesis 11. People gather on a plain, decide to build a tower to
the heavens and make a name for themselves, and God comes down and confuses
their speech.
It reads as judgment, and it is judgment. But this sermon insists it is
also mercy. Genesis 1 through 11 keeps showing the same two things: God
judging sin, and God restraining it before it consumes everything. A
unified humanity, united in rebellion with nothing to slow it down, is not
something to wish for.
Chapter 12 begins immediately afterward, with God calling one man out of
the scattered nations.
The tower was built to make a name. God makes the name instead.

June 26, 2026 Robby Plemmons: The Flood
God does two things in human history, and this sermon argues the whole
Bible is those two things repeated. He judges sin. And he rescues sinners
from that judgment.
Genesis 6 is the clearest early case. Humanity's corruption has spread
unchecked, and God's answer is the flood. But the same account that
describes the judgment also describes an ark, and a man told to build it.
The pattern had already been set three chapters earlier. Adam and Eve eat,
realize they are naked, and hide. God comes and finds them. They are
ashamed, so he kills an animal and clothes them - the first sacrifice, made
by the one they wronged. And then, to the serpent: I will put enmity
between your offspring and hers; he shall bruise your head.
Theologians call that verse the protoevangelium, the first announcement of
the gospel. Spurgeon called it the sum and summary of the whole Bible.
Everything after Genesis 3:15 is that promise working itself out, and the
flood is one turn of it.
Judgment is never the last thing God does. It has not once been the last
thing.

June 25, 2026 Robby Plemmons: The Fall
Watching your team lose 28-7 produces a very specific feeling: this is not
the way it is supposed to be. The sermon starts there, with a Mississippi
State game, and then widens out. Turn on the news and the same feeling
arrives in a heavier form - conflict between nations, trusted people
abusing those in their care, marriages ending. We know the world is not as
it should be. We are much less sure why.
Genesis 3 is the Bible's answer, and it differs from the one most of us
default to. It is not that people are basically good and their surroundings
spoil them. Something went wrong at the root, and it reaches every person
who has ever lived.
The chapter turns on a question rather than a command: did God actually
say? The serpent does not begin by denying God. He begins by making God's
word seem negotiable.
This is the second of four movements - creation, fall, redemption,
restoration - in a series tracing Scripture as a single story, running
alongside the CPC Kids class working through the same passages. It is the
saddest chapter in the Bible. It is also the one that explains the world
you actually live in.

June 24, 2026 Robby Plemmons: In The Beginning
This sermon launches a series running alongside the new CPC Kids class,
working through the same passages the children are studying in the Jesus
Storybook Bible - on the conviction that the Bible is one story rather than
a collection of them.
Four movements: creation, fall, redemption, restoration. Everything in
Scripture sits in one of them, and Genesis 1 is the first.
The Hebrew word that sums up these opening chapters is shalom, and it
carries far more than we usually let it. We hear peace and think of the
absence of conflict - guns down, fighting stopped. Shalom is the state in
which every part of creation is doing exactly what God made it to do.
People flourishing, living in his presence, loving him and loving each
other, and glad about it.
That is the world Genesis 1 describes, and it is why the rest of the Bible
reads the way it does. You cannot feel the weight of the fall unless you
know what was broken.
Everything after chapter 2 is a story about getting shalom back.
The Bible does not begin with sin. It begins with a world that worked.

June 23, 2026 Robby Plemmons: The Revelation of God
How can anyone know God? Only through what he has chosen to make known.
Everything else is guessing.
Penn and Teller sometimes perform an illusion and then show you how it
worked. That is what the word revelation means - information handed over
that you could not have had otherwise.
The Belgic Confession says God gives it two ways. First by the creation,
preservation and government of the universe, which stands before our eyes
like a beautiful book in which all creatures, great and small, are his
letters. Second, and more clearly, by his holy and divine word.
Psalm 19 is built in exactly those two halves. The heavens declare the
glory of God. Day pours out speech to day and night reveals knowledge to
night, and there is no language in which their voice is not heard. Then the
psalm turns, and the second half is about the law of the Lord - perfect,
reviving the soul; sure, making wise the simple.
The sky can tell you that God is. It cannot tell you his name, or what he
asks of you, or how you might be saved.
For that, somebody has to speak.

June 22, 2026 Robby Plemmons: Deuteronomy 5: Laws of Love
Ted Turner once told a room of newspaper publishers that the Ten
Commandments were outdated. When Moses went up the mountain there were no
nuclear weapons and no poverty, he said, and today the commandments would
not go over, because nobody likes being commanded.
Set aside that poverty was rampant in Moses' day. The deeper problem is the
assumption underneath the complaint - that being commanded is optional.
Outback Steakhouse advertises No Rules, Just Right. So try it. Walk in at
lunchtime past thirty people waiting, take the first table you like, and
make the people sitting there get up and leave. Then go into the kitchen
and eat whatever happens to be on a plate. Then, when the bill arrives,
decline to pay it, because there are no rules.
Nobody actually wants that restaurant. What they want is to be the one
making the rules.
Which is the point. You will be commanded by someone or something. The only
live question is whose commands you follow.
And notice when these particular commands arrive. God brought his people
out of Egypt first, then gave them the law - not to earn their freedom, but
to keep it.
Rules given by someone who has already rescued you are a different kind of
rule.

June 21, 2026 Robby Plemmons: Deuteronomy 4
It was an eleven-day journey from Sinai to the edge of the Promised Land.
It took forty years.
The people had refused to go in, so God let them wander until that entire
generation died in the wilderness. Now Moses stands with their children on
the east bank of the Jordan, and this speech is his attempt to steel them
for what their parents would not do.
His argument is not that the land will be easy. It is that their God is
near. What great nation is there that has a God so near to it as the Lord
our God is to us, whenever we call upon him?
Then comes the warning, and it is not about idolatry first. It is about
memory. Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the
things that your eyes have seen.
Forgetting is the danger. Not the giants, not the fortified cities.
Forgetting.
A generation died in the wilderness because they would not believe what
they had already watched God do. Their children are being handed the same
story so that it does not happen twice.
