Title: ATTRIBUTE OF GRIT
ATTRIBUTE OF GRIT
Heb 12:2 says:
let us run with endurance [fortitude] the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,
ENTER CALEB
Numbers 14:24
24 But My servant Caleb, because he has a DIFFERENT SPIRIT in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.
Joshua 14:7-14 – CALEB’S TESTIMONY
“I was forty years old when Moses…sent me…to explore the land… I brought him back a report according to my convictions, but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear. I, however, followed…God wholeheartedly…that day Moses swore to me, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance’…
So here I am today, eighty-five years old…as strong…as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as VIGOROUS to go out to battle now as I was then. Now give me this mountain that the Lord promised me…Then Joshua blessed Caleb…and gave him Hebron as his inheritance…because he followed the Lord…wholeheartedly” - Jos 14:7-14
CALEB – possessed these 4 qualities
1. GRIT
2. FOCUS
3. COURAGE
4. HUMILITY
GRIT DEFINED:
passion and perseverance for very long-term goals; stamina; sticking with your future day in and day out;
A HOLY RESILIENCE IN
THE FACE OF ADVERSITY
John Wesley Powell
In 1869, 35 yr old professor of geology
John Powell attempted something thought to be impossible.
GRIT
putting yourself in positions that will push you past your previous limits.
GRIT DOES NOT ALLOW YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES TO GET BETWEEN YOU AND GOD;
GRIT LET’S GOD GET BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES
Gen 1:9 “Fill the earth and SUBDUE IT.”
SUBDUE = KABASH!
• To make a path
• To bring under control
• To conquer
Proverbs 16:32
“He that conquers his soul is greater
than he that taketh a city.”
QUESTION:
“Is there an executive order
you need to give yourself?”
CALEB: he mastered his fears with faith
I brought him back a report according to my convictions, but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear. I, however, followed…God wholeheartedly…
Two frogs fell into a can of cream
Or so I’ve heard it told
The sides of the can were shiny and steep,
The cream was deep and cold.
“0 what's the use,” croaked Number One,
‘Tis fate; no help around.
Goodbye my friends, Goodbye sad world!”
And weeping still he drowned.
But Number Two, of GRITTY STUFF
Dog paddled in surprise
The while he wiped his creamy face
And dried his creamy eyes.
“I'll swim awhile, at least,” he said—
Or so I've heard he said;
“It really wouldn't help the world
If one more frog were dead.”
An hour or two he kicked and swam,
Not once he stopped to mutter,
But kicked and kicked and swam and kicked,
Then he hopped out, via butter!
HEBREWS 10:35-39
35 So don’t lose your bold, courageous faith, for you are destined for a great reward! 36 You need the strength of endurance to reveal the poetry of God’s will and then you receive the promise in full. 39 But we are certainly not those who are held back by fear and perish; we are among those who have faith and experience true life!
THE BLOOD ROUND
Hebrews 12:2
For the joy set before him
he endured the cross
HEBREW 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith”
IF GRIT HELPED JESUS
ENDURE HIS CROSS
GRIT WILL HELP US
CARRY OUR CROSS FOR HIM
TAKE HOME:
1. Caleb was 40 when He was ready to face his giants and enter the Promise Land; Because of the NEGATIVE CLIMATE he was in, he didn’t enter till He was 85. HE WAS JUST AS GRITTY AT 85 that he was at 40.
DON’T LET AGE keep you
from LIVING DANGEROUSLY
TAKE HOME:
2. Is there an executive order
you need to give yourself?
GRIT begins by conquering our sinful nature by Gods Spirit.
IF YOU FALL INTO A CAN OF CREAM
THIS WEEK:
MAKE BUTTER
TAKE HOME:
It’s never too late to be who you might have been.
DO GRIT
