The resurrection of Jesus is the most profound event in human history. No other event has the impact to alter life, redirect priorities, and provide eternal perspective like the resurrection. As such, there are consequences of the after-effect of the resurrection. This week how might the “Aftermath” of the resurrection impact Mary Magdalene?

On Palm Sunday, Jesus publicly declared Himself to be the Messiah and King of Israel as He rode into Jerusalem riding a donkey in fulfillment of Bible Prophecy. No attempt by any of those opposed to Him could prevent Him from accomplishing the purpose of His coming, which was to bring salvation through His death on the cross and His subsequent resurrection from the dead. In the eyes of man, the cross appeared to be a tragedy, but in the plan of God it was a triumph. Sadly, the multitudes who received Jesus on Palm Sunday as King, rejected Him in the end when He didn’t meet their expectations. Today, we wait expectantly for the day when Jesus will once again descend the Mount of Olives, as He comes to take His rightful place upon His throne as King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

Jesus is coming again! While it is the HOPE of the believer, some may think it is just a way to ESCAPE the challenges life presents us all. Nothing could be further from the truth. In many ways the fact that Jesus is coming again is a reminder of our responsibilities until He comes. As we conclude our series “Se7en” let’s examine some “Escapeology.”

Laodicea was a unique church. It was wealthy, self-sufficient, good reputation, and it made Jesus sick. Remember, I said it was unique. It may have looked the part, but its actions were anything but authentic. In fact, the church was much like the water supply in that it was distasteful. And distasteful to the most important person of all, Jesus. What was Jesus message to this complacent, apathetic lukewarm church. Let’s take a look!

Philadelphia was a great church…not a perfect church…but a great church. In fact, Jesus only had good things to say about it. It was a church with an “open door” that “no one could shut.” That’s an incredible challenge for us to be just such a church. Philadelphia had an opportunity and so do we. The message to the Church in Sardis was a warning and was corrective. Jesus warned the people that He could return at any time and we must be ready. A simple definition of compromise is “giving into something in order to receive something else.” In business, in politics, and maybe within families compromise is ok. But in matters of faith? Not so much.

The church at Pergamum was faced with compromise, and Jesus confronted them. For all of us, the potential to compromise is all too real. In the face of increasing cultural pressure in being Christ-followers, what might we do? Let’s take a look.
