Amos was a Shepherd of Tekoa when called him to the prophetic ministry. The people of Israel had become materialistic, self-indulgent, prideful, and hypocritical. Injustice was pervasive throughout the land. Amos announced God's impending judgment and the hope of restoration under a Davidic king.

Churches must be diligent to watch over each other so that their members do not fall short of God's grace. Esau was associated with God's covenant people and yet he despised his birthright and did not receive the blessing. We should learn from his example and make sure that our conversion is real and that we are mortifying sinful desires.
