Paul has been advocating for unity in the church since the beginning of ch.14. First, in non-essential matters, he called for welcoming the weak in faith by not despising, judging, hindering, grieving nor destroying the one for whom Christ died. Now he calls the strong to welcome the weak in humility and for edification, not seeking self-pleasure, sustained by the hope of God’s word, following the example of Christ who calls for hospitality in the community and unity in heart and in mind, in spirit and in voice, for the glory of God.
