Life is like a roller coaster — and when the storms hit, how do we respond? In this message, Pastor Sam speaks from Acts 27:13-44, where Paul finds himself in the middle of a violent, life-threatening storm at sea — and shows us what it looks like to trust God when everything is out of control.

Whether you're navigating grief, uncertainty, loss, or a season of darkness — this message is for you. Three things we learn from Paul's storm in Acts 27:

1. God is Sovereign in the Storms of Life
When life feels completely out of control, it is never out of God's control. Paul and 276 people on board had given up all hope — yet God knew exactly where they were and cared for every single one of them. Sometimes storms are not a sign that we're outside God's will. Sometimes they are exactly where God wants us — forming something in us that can only happen in the storm.

2. Our Responsibility is to Trust in God's Care
Trusting God doesn't mean throwing out common sense or good judgment. It means responding differently than those who don't know God. Paul stood out on that ship not because he wasn't afraid, but because he moved forward in faith despite his fear — anchored in God's promise and Word. If we build a spiritual foundation in Christ before the storm hits, we'll have something solid to stand on when it does.

3. God Uses Our Trust in the Storm to Bear Witness
Paul didn't keep God's promise to himself. He shared it openly — giving thanks to God in front of the entire crew of sailors, soldiers, and prisoners. In dark seasons, people are more open to spiritual things. Your trust in God in the storm can become someone else's evidence that God is real.

Your faithfulness is not private — it is meant for everyone around you who is watching.
"Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you." — 1 Peter 5:7

Pastor Dan Forest continued our Acts series with a message on Festus — the Roman governor who barely gets a mention in Scripture, yet made a choice that helped set Paul on his path to Rome.

Most of us won't be remembered like Paul, Peter, or Stephen. We're side characters. But Festus reminds us that side characters still matter — their choices ripple through God's story.

What does it look like to have a heart for mission in a city like Richmond, BC? In this message, guest speaker Pastor David Leung — a hospital chaplain at Vancouver General Hospital — explores Paul's remarkable ministry in Athens and its meaning for us today.

Athens was a city full of idols. But the idols of Paul's day aren't so different from the idols of our modern world. Wealth, success, beauty, pleasure — the same human longings exist in our city today, just with different names. As Tim Keller puts it, anything that takes the centre place belonging to Christ alone begins to act like a god in our lives.

Three lessons from Paul's ministry in Athens:

1. Know Your Context
Before we can engage our city with the gospel, we need to identify the idols — in our culture and in our own hearts. You cannot cultivate a heart for mission if something else already holds the centre place.

2. Cultivate a Heart of Zeal
Paul was provoked when he saw Athens full of idols — not with contempt, but with a loving jealousy for God's glory. This zeal is cultivated by regularly returning to the beauty and mercy of Christ in the gospel. The more Christ stays at the centre, the more we'll be moved to share Him.

3. Engage with Respect and Curiosity
Paul didn't condemn the Athenians — he learned their language, quoted their poets, and met them where they were. Reaching our neighbours means taking the time to genuinely know their stories and asking God to show us where the gospel meets their needs.

The encouragement for us? We don't go into mission alone. Jesus is the Lord of the harvest — already at work in the hearts of people around us. We are called to partner with Him.

Are you so focused on what God did in the past that you're missing what He's doing right now?

In Isaiah 43:18-19, God speaks to the Israelites in Babylonian captivity — a people who loved their deliverance story so much they couldn't see the new thing God was preparing for them. They kept commemorating the Exodus, the parting of the Red Sea, while God was saying: "Behold, I am doing a new thing. Do you not perceive it?"

This message is just as relevant today. Sometimes our greatest barrier to experiencing God isn't our past failures — it's our past victories. God is not limited to the way He's moved before. What used to be a barrier,

He turns into a blessing. What threatened to destroy you, He uses to sustain you.

God is a way maker — in the wilderness, in the desert, and in every season where you feel lost, stuck, or forgotten.

The best is not behind you. God is still faithful, still moving, and still doing something new.
