Maggie Mayday is the new band from former Suggestions frontman and acclaimed singer-songwriter John Brodeur. Bassist Jenn McCarron brings a manic energy to the stage, and a fluid and melodic playing style to the songs. Meghan Tully can be about the loudest drummer you've ever heard, when she's being nice. The trio are putting the finishing touches on their first album with producer Troy Pohl, due in early 2009.

We have seen the name Permagrin plastered in the Metroland in one venue ad to the next. The band name may be familiar from playing out often but their lighter acoustic sidemay not be as familiar. They often are a jam band and rarely tone down to an acoustic sound. The interview went well and the two songs they played live in the studio came out to be quite impressive even though a string broke during the recording. The third song on this episode is a live track from a previous gig. Either these guys play with more soul acoustically or the live recording was a rough mix. It did however feature a great live drum solo towards the end of the song. What really stood out during this episode is Pat, the lead singer, and his voice. Coupled with his tasty guitar licks this musician can sing like the best in the area. He has this sense of authenticity to his voice which you can hear in the two in studio songs.

On this special addition of CRUMBS Café, the Dreamspun Recording Studio was gracious enough to let us have some studio time to interview the band The Electric City Horns. There was just no way to squeeze this 9 piece band into the small Café studio. It worked out well as the Dreamspun team of experts jumped into high gear to set up the studio. The conversation varied from playing for charity events to the future of the new venue/club in Saratoga. The band was able to play two originals and one cover. This was a first for us as we had to accommodate for 22 tracks during the recording session. Overall it came out like a live studio session should: with the raw and spontaneous sound.

Topics include how playing down in NYC is helping them to make the right connections which has given them national exposure and a potential producer for their next album. They have been feverously writing songs the past couple of months especially because the drummer was recovering from an ankle injury. They have a bunch of songs lined up for when they head in the studio late this summer. The three songs they were able to play are all new and never herd before. If you are an IMI fan or if you are hearing them for the first time, you will dig the acoustic version of these new songs.

Both Mike and Chris sing have developed a similar voice. It can be difficult to pick out who is singing what part which works well for the songs because the harmonies are able to have depth and congruency. And the music? They have an amazing Live sound. What I mean by that is they can sometimes sound like the band Live. You can hear what I mean with the first song on this episode, 'Fear the Monkey', which was recorded live at the Altamont Fair Grounds. This song is a well defined and polished song which could possibly be their best. In the studio we had Mike and Chris from the band who are also a part of other local bands and have solo careers.
