07 Oct 2009: When a boy grows up in an Italian family in Schenectady, NY, struggling to find his identity through music in a family of 11 children, the result is not your average singer songwriter. Marcus Ruggiero's songs of both the beauty and darkness of life have resulted in several recordings, including the highly acclaimed "Shed Some Light" which features, "Theirs A Girl I Need To Go See About" inspired by the movie "Good Will Hunting" and "Another Cold Day In June." A story of a man at end of his foolish road, homeless. Marcus' records can be heard on radio stations throughout the country, as well as in live performances as a soloist and with his band. Ruggiero is currently in the studio working on his latest project, American Car's a recording of more original tunes that shoot a patriotic flare that hits home with the American family unit and the American Dream cloaked by political magicians, financial struggles and the false hope of living beyond our means, showcasing his rich vocal artistry and insistent guitar playing.
30 Sep 2009: Raised in New York City, John began playing Subway stations and bars in and around Manhattan in his early twenties. His songwriting has evolved over the past 15 years from intimate walks through the blue-black city streets and bar-rooms of New York City, to autumn brown country roads paved with gratitude. John has developed a loyal grass-roots fan base and has been touring throughout the Northeast. John's sound has been described by Jazz Bassist Joe Fonda as "true lyrical poetry that is rooted in the blues and has a deep groove." The music is seamless and moves effortlessly between powerful testimonials of love and redemption and mournful ballads of regret and perseverance. John plays strictly acoustic music. It is clean, soulful and honest. John's music takes listeners on a journey they do not soon forget. Josh Hathaway of Blog Critics wrote that there is a truly unique quality to Scarpulla's music that honors blues, soul, pop and americana at the same time. Scarpulla credits the longevity of the careers of his influences such as Van Morrison, Joe Cocker and Neil Young to their uncompromising honesty and individuality. Good music outlasts trends and maintains its integrity way after the sweet first bite of the flavor of the month.
23 Sep 2009: Cats Don't Have Souls is the result of Jeremy Sebastiano's hard work in writing music essentially on his own for years. Originally from Long Island, Jeremy moved to Albany and after many changes in trying to find a drummer and bass player, now has Matt Bowman playing drums and bass player Bart, who also plays for a local band called Ignomen. With the current line up we are focusing on playing creative, artistic, emotional live performances as well as getting our music out to the masses. The hope is to offer a unique style without fitting into any specific genre and to never take ourselves too seriously.
10 Sep 2009: Capital Zen's members draw on their influences in funk, reggae, rock, punk, and jazz, bonding them at the molecular level to create a truly explosive sound that can only be described as Capital Zen. Live Zen is all about getting people up and moving. With Ryzuk's funky bass lines, Scoville's tight guitar licks, Hannay's color and harmony, and Wylie's drums as the anchor, Zen rocks every crowd they come across. onceived late in the summer of 2004 in Lake George NY, Zen originally played under the name 'Tree' with current members Scoville, Wylie, Ryzuk, and fourth member Jon McDowell, who was the lead singer and percussionist. Tree gained notoriety in Upstate New York for their ambient jams and psychedelic sound. When McDowell left the area in '06 the band shifted gears. The trio took the name "Capital Zen" and their music to the next level ever since. After a couple magical shows in the early months of '09 with Scott Hannay (who has also played onstage with jam-rock masters Umphrey's McGee) on keyboards the group knew the chemistry was complete. Capital Zen has played a number of great venues all around the North East including Nectars, Revolution Hall, The Electric Company, Red Square, Northern Lights, Copperfields, The Monopole, Savannahs, The Black Oak, and General Clinton's. Capital Zen has also been thrilled to share the stage with many great acts, including Rustic Overtones, Beduin Soundclash, Into the Presence (feat. Tim Alexander from Primus), Positive Mental Trip, Consider the Source, Method of Productive Means, Citizen Red, Evil TV, and Lucid. Capital Zen hosted an Umphreys McGee after party in Boston and also spent this New Year's Eve playing with Lynch, which features members of Conehead Buddha and Moe. With the release of their second album coming this summer, Capital Zen is looking forward to continuing to spread their music to new audiences in '09.
09 Sep 2009: 1960's high school band. Reunited 30 years later after discovering their love for and enjoyment of the music was still there. Playing classic rock memories from the 50's through today, they enjoy performing for old friends and new friends met along their musical journeys. The band started back in the '60 on the cusp of Beatle mania. They were just a couple of lads struck by the wave and wanted to be just like the Fab Four. They formed a band while focusing on the movement but quickly realized that not everyone was up to par with their instruments. Over time they perfected their craft and when on to perform at a famous baseball field in Amsterdam in front of hundreds of screaming fans at a time when the Beatles were banded on the radio in this area. Time have changed, the Beatles are back on the air and The Rogues continue to be one of the longest standing bands in the area.
11 Sep 2009: They've been hailed, "One of the most intriguing new bands on the horizon," by The Daily Freeman and, "As contemporary as contemporary gets!" by the LA Music Awards so it's no surprise that NY-based Indie/Rock band have created quite a splash with their highly-anticipated, 2nd album (3rd release). The band was funded completely by fans worldwide via crowd-sourcing website, Sellaband.com. Written by the violist/pianist, the record is, "Majestic and damn compelling!" says UK cult reviewer, Toxic Pete. It's "brilliant right from first play... clever and quite magnificent!!" Easy comparisons can be made to Metric, Paramore, Poe, Silversun Pickups, Evanescence, or Apocalyptica. The band has been lucky to share the stage with Moby, Creed, Company of Thieves, Dredg, Meiko, & Hypernova to name a few. They've played SXSW, Summerfest, Indie Week Canada, Surface Unsigned Music Festival, UK and many more. In 2008, they completed their 3rd US tour and played extensively throughout the UK, Italy, & Canada.
08 Sep 2009: Soul rocker Bryan Thomas is a punk clown fool from New York's capital city of Albany. He recently released his fifth independent CD, 1369 Lights. The Albany Times Union named Thomas "Best Male Singer-Songwriter" shortly after he released his acoustic hip-hop debut Radio Plastic Jennifer in 1999. The follow-up soul rock epic Ones and Zeros was Metroland Magazine's "Album of the Year" in 2002. He was recently in the studio with punk legend Tommy Ramone, making a special guest appearance on a track produced by Ramone for New York City's genre-smashing neo-punksters Collider. Bryan's music can be heard on the opening track of the Black Rock Coalition's Bronze Buckaroo Rides Again which also includes a track by BRC founder/ Living Colour guitar wizard Vernon Reid. He has three songs on the double-live Pazfest: A New Orleans Tribute to Joni Mitchell recorded on a steamy Louisiana night at the Howlin' Wolf in the summer of 2000.
03 Aug 2009: Restys are a six-piece from Troy New York. Their four part harmonies, banjo, accordion, fiddle, guitar and hearty rhythm section bring you songs in all shapes and sizes. As long as those shapes are folk and rock. The line up includes Matt Moorman: lead guitar, harmonica, mostly takes the lead on the vocals; Ira Marcks: slap and traditional banjo, guitar, known to belt out vocals every now and them; Maura Bress: aficionado of the accordion, alto sax, mandolin; Marc Coudert: smoothes out the rhythm with the bass; Misha Rabinovich: keeps the beat solid on the percussion. The recording of this episode took place at Proctors Robb Alley in Schenectady. It was a nice relaxed night with a moderate crowd. This was the largest band we've recorded on the road and the over all sound came out great.
01 Jun 2009: Tern Rounders' music paints a richly varied landscape, from the rootsy vistas of fellow songwriter/musicians like Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Emmylou Harris, Townes Van Zandt, to further down the coast to California, warping back to a time when Gram Parsons & The Burrito Bros. flew high over L.A. and the Buffalo Springfield still roamed. Tern Rounders are about to release our debut album. Produced and recorded in a farmhouse attic in Argyle, NY, the recording consists of ten original tracks, an homage to the traditional 45-minute LP vinyl format, back when distributable media platforms dictated album length resulting in a dense artistic whole that defined the notion of an "album." A Different Land features the tightly locked vocal harmonies of Kim Noyes and Marc Clayton, who both play guitar; Roger Noyes shares multi-instrumentalist duties with Marc, who together fill out the album's ensemble textures on drums, percussion, bass, keyboards, lead guitar, harmonica and banjo. Since the start of recording in February, the trio - which formed in November 2008 - has recently been joined by drummer Jim Ketterer and bassist Harry Strole who complete the Tern Rounders sound and have become critical partners as the band focuses on creating new music.
