Psalm 88 is the crying supplication of a submerged soul. As best we can tell, Heman was an outcast from his youth -- likely a leper -- forced to live alone and disfigured. He represents the man or woman in soulful torment. In his pain, he cries to Jehovah, asks honest questions of Jehovah, but never turns from his faith in Jehovah.
