It’s always good to catch up with like-minded people in agricultural research and find out what big conversations they’re having with growers. So, when we heard Elders’ Senior Agronomist James Bee from Albany was in town, we were thrilled to have him in the studio to talk about how the lower southwest and our good friends at Elders are going this season.

CSBP and Elders share long histories, firm foundations and strong relationships built on the same goals of turning good quality ag research and field trials into sound advice and good decisions for growers that result in healthier soils and farm yields. And Elders’ highly experienced agronomist, James Bee, loves digging into soil nutrition science just as much as we do.

James joins our host Grey Johnston to share the trends he’s seeing this growing season from what conditions are affecting decisions right now; how farm budgets are shaping up; new seed varieties and clean farm yields; plus, his recent field trials of our new Urea Sustain product.

With Australia’s national hockey program proudly based right here in our state, WA is the heart of hockey, creating more exciting opportunities for our young players than ever before. This includes elite-level sporting experiences like our regional Hockey WA carnivals, proudly sponsored by CSBP and soon to be heading to Narrogin, Northam, Bruce Rock and other regional hubs around the state.

To kick off 2023’s Hockey WA carnivals, 20-year-old Brodee Foster – rising star from Perth Thundersticks and Australia’s under-21s hockey team – joins our host Grey Johnston, CSBP Advice, Insights and Marketing Manager.

Brodee will be part of the touring Hockey WA team at three of this year’s regional carnivals, before heading off to Europe to play for the national under-21s team, and Malaysia for the Sultan of Johor Cup and the Junior World Cup. After that, he’s got his sights set on one day playing for the Kookaburras.

We were thrilled to have him in the studio to share what he loved about last year’s carnivals and what’s got him coming back for more in 2023.

These carnivals give thousands of regional school kids who’ve never played hockey before a great introduction to the sport. They also give those who’ve already picked up a hockey stick a chance to gain some tips from top hockey coaches and elite players, including Brodee Foster and Penny Squibb, and develop their skills in a fun and safe team environment.

As partners of Hockey WA since 2021, CSBP is proud to be supporting the growth of the sport across regional WA and sponsoring the Hockey Carnivals and School Hockey Clinics (part of Hockey WA’s regional schools program) for a third year running.

This year, the Wagin Woolorama is celebrating 50 years! 

After last year’s unfortunate cancellation due to Covid, the Woolorama is back better than ever, commemorating their belated half-century.

Ric reminisces about the old days and how he’s seen the Woolorama transform over the last 50 years. Carmen deep dives into how the whole community bounced back after cancelling last year’s show and how they navigated the pandemic.

Chloe provides her perspective on the 2023 Rural Ambassador, explaining how the Woolorama helped shape her younger years and why she’s so proud to represent this event.

6Bs is an organisation that is doing incredible work to raise awareness around the importance of mental well-being and community connectedness in regional Western Australia. 

Brad chats to Grey about what led him to start the 6Bs initiative and how it developed since its inception in 2017. 

2023 will see the second A Night Under the Stars event being held at Buckland Estate, between Toodyay and Northam. The event is a cocktail gala seeking to unite regional and rural communities in Western Australia which last year fundraised for 6 mental health organisations that support regional communities, including the 6Bs! This year, all funds raised through A Night Under the Stars will be directed to the events ‘Shooting for the Stars’ grants program which will help fund initiatives to keep local communities mentally healthy.
