CSG Podcast

The Denver Nuggets pounded the Minnesota Timberwolves by nearly 30 points in game one of their first round playoff series. Did the Nuggets play possum at the end of the regular season? On the latest Mortcast on CSG Jeff talks about how the Nuggets prioritizing their health over everything else at the end of the season caused us all (including the Timberwolves) to underestimate them. Also, Jeff chides Michael Malone for putting Jokic back in when the Nuggets were up by 30 points. You can't have a Mortcast without Malone criticism. Ha!

On the latest Mortcast, Jeff attempts to recontextualize the Nuggets playoffs misfortune and make the argument that bad luck has hurt them more than lack of talent. Jeff highlights 4 such moments (among many). Also, Jeff talks about how Joel Embiid can't seem to take the W and be happy that he is winning ... interview after interview complaining about how he has been treated. It's not helping him and making people who would otherwise be on his side turn against him.

The sub par play of the Denver Nuggets alarmed some observers down the stretch, but it was clear from the moment the Nuggets defeated the Memphis Grizzlies at home in early March that they would be prioritizing health in the playoffs over consistency in meaninless games. Is that the right strategy? We will find out once the playoffs begin. Also, Jeff discusses how the Milwaukee and Philly games from late March are probably instructive of which Nuggets team can show up in these pressure packed playoff games.

On the latest (very short) Mortcast, Jeff talks about how the NBA's reliance on players promoting themselves abdicates the league's responsibility in promoting it's stars. How this and a bunch of other factors have combined to hurt the visibility of Nikola Jokic.

So we had a matchup that was supposed to happen, but didn't. Joel Embiid sat out his big MVP battle matchup with Nikola Jokic on Monday and everyone was left fumbling for reasons. On the latest Mortcast Jeff talks about how Embiid sitting seemed to be projected from the start of the Sixers road trip, the odd decision for Embiid to play against the Suns on Saturday, and how the city of Denver likely played a factor in Embiid sitting out this game.

The OG CSG Nate Timmons joined Jeff to talk about all things CSG and Denver Nuggets. Do these Denver Nuggets have a chance in the NBA Playoffs? Do we trust them. Nate and Jeff also talk about the 2013 Nuggets team and contrast them with the current one. Along the way they talk movies, and how Denver Stiffs pioneered everything you see right now.

Great show as always with Nate Timmons.

In a dramatic but little-known incident in team history, in January of 1978 back up point guard Brian Taylor (who galvonized the Nuggets second unit) didn't show up for one game. In the New York Times the very next day Taylor announced that he was now a free agent. The affect on the Nuggets was profound and was the first in a series of events that eventually derailed the 1970's Golden Era of the Nuggets.

Jeff talks about its affect and how the team responded ... or didn't respond.

Here's Jeff's interview with Dan Issel from 2017: https://www.spreaker.com/user/milehighsports/csg-278-nuggets-legend-dan-issel-talks-t

No, it's not just a Foreigner song. One the latest Mortcast, Jeff talks about how Nuggets head coach Michael Malone has his eyes filled with that tunnel vision and how that might hurt the team in the playoffs. Three guard lineups seem to be his comfort food.

On the latest Mortcast on CSG Trey Mitchell joins Jeff to talk about the sorry state of coverage in the NBA ... specifically when it comes to the toxic MVP debate and general coverage of the Denver Nuggets. What is going wrong? How could things be better? The last few weeks of coverage has been a sad state of what the NBA coverage has become.

Yes ESPN would rather the Lakers win. Yes the Worldwide Leader is infiltrated by the big player agencies who have their own agendas. Yes David Stern never liked basketball in Denver. None of that matters. On the Latest Mortcast, Jeff talks about how Nuggets fans need to concentrate on two words: Just Win. Nothing cures disrespect by taking that respect by force.

Just. Win.
