  • Dangers of the Essure Birth Control Device on The Authentic Woman with Shannon Fisher

Shannon welcomes three women spearheading an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of the permanent birth control device Essure. Her guests are Angie Firmalino, founder the Essure Problems group; Amanda Dykeman, an administrator of the group; and Amanda Rusmisell, the group’s legislative liaison. The Essure Problems group has connected nearly 25,000 women who have had adverse reactions to the device.

This show, which aired before the Essure device was removed from the market, highlights the potentially fatal complications of the Essure device so women can make an informed decision about having the device implanted in their fallopian tubes. The device has garnered thousands of reports of autoimmune issues, adhesions and punctures of abdominal organs, excessive bleeding, severe pelvic pain, and even death. Erin Brockovich helped the Essure Problems group gain traction. There is now bipartisan legislation before Congress calling for the removal of Essure from the market introduced by Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick.

  • A Global Conversation on Human Trafficking

Host Shannon Fisher moderates a panel of experts including prosecutors, law enforcement officers, legislators who have worked to enact laws to combat human trafficking, victim’s rights advocates and survivors of the sex trade – all of whom share stories about the horrors they have witnessed and experienced. This broadcast, a partnership between the Authors on the Air Global Radio Network LLC. and UniteWomen.org, shines a light on this topic that is usually kept in the shadows.

Few are aware that there is a growing human trafficking problem right here in the United States. The average of the girls being sold in the sex trade in America is 12 – and who they are might surprise you! Children are being bought and sold in our own neighborhoods, often by our trusted neighbors. Human trafficking is rapidly becoming our nation’s most profitable underground industry. This $32 billion “industry” enslaves more than 300,000 underage girls (and boys) each year in America, selling them into forced prostitution. Drugs, weapons and other contraband are sold once, for a one time profit. Humans can be sold again and again for their bodies to be used and abused – both for sex and for labor.

There is an epidemic of modern-day slavery happening right under our noses, and most people in America are completely unaware of its existence! Our experts share the common indicators of predators and tips on how to identify the signs of human trafficking. Be a part of this important global event and save a life.

Shannon Fisher was the Director of Unite Against Rape for UniteWomen.org and a co-founder of the program. She has enlisted the help of celebrities and notable legislators to help spread awareness of the epidemic of rape in our society today. A fervent activist for women’s rights, Shannon is a noted civic leader who has worked in the fields of public and community relations for nearly twenty years.
