🎯 “Winning = Fun”? Not So Fast.
I walked into a locker room and saw this poster:
➡️ “Why do we play? To have fun. What makes it fun? Winning. So let’s win, win, win, and win some more.”
But here’s the problem: Fun doesn’t mean the same thing to every athlete.
Research shows that while fun is the #1 reason athletes play, winning is just one of many ingredients. Things like trying hard, improving, team connection, and game excitement matter just as much—often more.
💡 Great coaches don’t impose their own definition of fun—they get to know each player’s why and create an environment that nurtures it.

In this video, you'll discover 3 actionable strategies for coaches to navigate varying levels of commitment within their own teams, whether you're coaching high school, youth, or even professional athletes:
Ask Questions to Foster Awareness: Go beyond "what are your goals?" and ask questions that truly reveal an athlete's commitment and willingness to sacrifice.

Appreciate the Types of Commitment: Understand that "different" isn't "less." Explore how diverse approaches to commitment can actually strengthen a team dynamic.

In this clip, I reflect on a fundamental leadership insight: if you want to change culture, don’t just focus on behaviors — focus on the beliefs driving them.
Drawing from books like The Culture Code and What You Do Is Who You Are, I explore why high-performing teams succeed not just because of what they do, but because of what they believe.

💥 Every coach messes up. The real test of leadership? How you recover.
In this clip from The Coaching Culture Podcast, we break down how to apologize effectively — without letting athletes off the hook:
✅ Own your mistakes (no excuses!)
✅ Restate the facts
✅ Share what you wish you’d done differently
When athletes see you take responsibility, they learn to do the same. That’s leadership in action. 👊
Coaches — when was the last time you modeled a great apology?
