Winter in Minnesota. It’s a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Some love it, some hate it, but we all get through (deal with) it… somehow. Some people like to hunker down and cozy up to a fire and some like to get outside and play in the cold.
We’ve all heard of MN nice, well get ready for Minnesota ‘N Ice, a special Culture Clique series where we’ll take a look at the way Minnesotans and Winonans in particular get out and enjoy our frozen waters.
Today we hit the backwaters of the Mississippi river with an outdoor hike organized by the Winona Outdoor Collaborative. The hike started at Latsch Beach, went across the wagon bridge and through Aghaming Park and Reserve. Alexa Shapiro, the Operations Director for the Winona Outdoor Collaborative will be our guide today. Alexa fills us in on some of the cool experiences the WOC offers and she gives us some tips for winter hiking. I’m Bill Stoneberg, with WOC Operations Director Alexa Shapiro on Culture Clique.

Last week we took you to Lake Winona to talk to some guys with a unique winter hobby. Some of them have been lifelong friends and some just joined the group this winter. Their ages range from teenagers to retirees but they all had more than one thing in common; That is, a love of dirtbikes and a need for speed on the ice. Today we’ve got part two of our conversation with the riders of the ice bikes, on Culture Clique.

The holiday season conjures up many images and memories for people. Snow covered landscapes, home cooked holiday meals, children excited for Santa and presents, chestnuts roasting… you get the picture. But things like groceries for holiday meals and gifts all cost money and not everyone can always afford a holiday meal for the whole family or to provide enough presents for the children to open on Christmas morning. A few years ago, one Winona resident decided to do something to help families in need get through the holidays. Today on Culture Clique we talk to Alycia Lockwood, founder of Winona’s Angels, a local charity that helps families in need with food, Christmas gifts and more through the holiday season and beyond. I’m Bill Stoneberg, stick around as we talk about giving, holiday spirit and Winona’s Angels with Alycia Lockwood, on Culture Clique.

Today, to commemorate the shows 50th year, we talk to John L. Hanson Jr. about everything from his journey as a young kid from Detroit moving to Austin TX to a decidedly hot interview with Aretha Franklin.
