On the last episode of the semester we explore the home countries of the two hosts: Harun and Onder! They answer all the same questions that our previous guests have had and we think this hybrid of countries is taking a giant leap towards achieving world peace. Just a reminder that these episodes were recorded during winter study and so phrases like 'We hope you make it home safe' are quite redundant amid the current pandemic.
Nonetheless, we hope you've enjoyed season one and we wish to bring y'all season two this fall (fingers crossed for an in-person semester.)
In today's episode, we find out exactly why 2020 has been such a sh*tstorm! Salvador tells us that he did not eat 12 grapes and make wishes when entering 2020 and that is why he might have a bad year. Well, Sal was very right in this statement which he made two months before COVID-19 smashed through the earth. It is probably helpful to remember that we recorded this during Winter Study.
Oh and yeah, Colombia! We find out that people are very kind yet mischievous. Make sure that you rest well when you get to Bogota because of how high it is! Salvador is unsure if he sees his future in Bogota; he is an American citizen after all.
On this weeks episode, we speak to Kristel from Albania. The country with the peculiar flag seems to have very diverse terrain and plenty of liveliness to go around throughout the capital. Kristel is dying to take Harun and Onder to the beach but they are simply swamped with work and politely decline. Kristel doesn't take to this too well but still puts on a brave face and continues with the episode. She is very knowledgable on her home country; listen and find out!
This might just be the weirdest, most cringy episode of CoW. It feels as if the five months of friendship between this trio has not materialized into a good episode of Cultures. But who is to blame? Achref forced bread down our throats and we felt uncomfortable in his presence. The feud was later resolved and the trio remained as such for decades to come. Enjoy!
In this weeks episode we speak to Magda from Panama City. We learn that the famous 'Panama Hat' is actually a common tourists misconception and that the hat is actually Ecuadorian. We also quiz Magda with our three statements which she *spoiler alert* gets correct. Enjoy!
In today's episode, we speak to Balint from Hungary who explains what his name means and how Hungarian's celebrate their 'name days.' Though, Balint chooses not to partake in this cultural tradition which many of our listeners may find upsetting but fear not, he does not care. We are also tremendously intrigued to hear about Balint's favorite slang word, we would try to explain it here but feel we simply lack the vocabulary to do so. Enjoy!
In today's episode, we explore all the intricacies that Kenya has to offer and talk about some common misconceptions too! If you're an animal lover and wanna be on an island that we assume has minimal pollution because it has no cars; then Kenya is the place to be!
This episode is being dubbed as a 'Spring Break Special!' Today we explore the 50th state (is that what American's refer to it as? We don't know) as presented by Lemmy. This history can only be questioned by only the greatest historians. You don't know how to say booger in Pidgin so listen to this and learn :)
In this episode, we talk to Jacob from Taiwan who enlightens us on how limited his hometown is in fun things. He explains that 'Big City' is the only thing to do in his hometown which is an hour south of Taipei.
Fun fact: garbage trucks play music in Taipei!
Enjoy!
This episode we find out that American's have Greek Life completely wrong! Greek's don't get drunk in fraternities! Greeks would rather drink coffee and play tavli.
Petros is a really chill guy and if this episode doesn't exemplify that, then we are not sure what will.
