Welcome to this episode of our podcast, where we dive into the world of healthcare and patient safety. In this episode, we'll be discussing the experience of a nurse when a patient falls.
As healthcare professionals, we know that falls can have serious consequences, both physical and emotional, for patients and their families. Join us as we share our firsthand experience of dealing with a patient fall, the challenges we faced, and what we learned.
We'll also discuss the importance of fall prevention strategies, such as hourly rounding, bed, and chair alarms, communication, and patient education, and how they can help reduce the risk of falls.
Need some relationship advice? How self-aware are you when communicating with your partner in difficult times? One of the key things to master in any relationship is communication. Effective communication is key to a healthy relationship because it allows both partners to express their needs, feelings, and concerns openly and honestly. This can help prevent misunderstandings and build trust and intimacy between partners
In episode 206 of the podcast, we had the pleasure of speaking with Ashley Turner, a licensed psychotherapist, yoga meditation expert, and 7-figure wellness entrepreneur. We discussed various topics, including relationship advice, the benefits of yoga, and trauma-informed care.
It is undeniable that nursing is a noble profession that requires a unique set of skills and qualities. We came up with 9 Qualities of a good nurse that every nurse should possess.
What are other qualities you should have as a nurse?
In episode 205, we discuss the nine qualities of a good overall nurse. Nurses must possess several qualities that make them stand out. Every aspiring nurse should strive to possess these qualities to provide quality patient care, maintain a positive work environment, and achieve the best outcomes for patients.
Flight nursing is one of the opportunities you have as a nurse. It's a combination of ICU and ED with a step away from the typical bedside approach. Flight nursing requires many credentials and experience in fields such as ER, ICU, and trauma. As a flight nurse, you are the person making decisions and leading care based on the patient's condition; you have more autonomy than an ED or ICU nurse but also have a wide range of protocols at your disposal.
On episode 204, we would like to introduce you to Madison Vawter. Madison is a flight nurse with a background in ER, ICU, and Trauma. We talk about what a flight nurse does, how to become one, and how to build confidence.
Jeffery Swanson, a 68-year-old African-American male, came into the emergency department with a blood pressure of 176/82. His respiratory rate is 20 bpm, with a temperature of 99.4 degrees Fahrenheit and an O2 saturation of 92%. Upon initial assessment, Jefferey looked calm but apprehensive; he also had a minor headache with a pain level of 3/10. His speech sounded garbled and slow but was comprehensive when questioned about his date of birth. Further assessment also revealed that his pupils were equal and reactive to light and that he presented with right-sided facial paralysis. While he can follow instructions and raise his extremities, Jefferey cannot move his right arm and leg, nor can he feel them.

What have you found helpful for you that you would recommend to others? We came up with 10 tips every nurse should know.
What are some tips you'd give to a nurse?
In episode 203 we discuss 10 tips every nurse should know. Being a nurse is by no means an easy profession, but these tips can help you make it a bit easier to overcome obstacles that nurses face in healthcare.
Nurses are so good at helping others that they sometimes forget to help themselves. Nurse retention has worsened, and nurses are turning away from the bedside. Healthcare also lacks the fundamentals to help nurses stay physically and mentally healthy. What changes in healthcare do you think can be implemented to help nurses?
In episode 202, we would like to introduce you to Dr. Terri Ann Parnell. Dr. Terri Ann Parnell is a nurse, a recognized health literacy expert, and an award-winning author. She is the principal and founder of TAP Wellness Coaching and Health Literacy Partners. Her extensive nursing career incorporates hospital and health system management, administrative and leadership roles, and faculty roles in schools of nursing, medicine, and health care administration.
We want to welcome everyone to our first case study. Instead of our usual nurse debriefings, we will talk about patient cases since we are not travel nursing at the moment. These nurse cases are excellent for nurses and student nurses to understand how patient studies work, use critical thinking skills, and what to expect while handling these patients. In this episode, we will talk about a case regarding congestive heart failure or CHF. We will also tackle the patient history and assessment and ask questions as we go along the case. So, if you want to hear our first patient case study, join us in this episode!
