Susan Salenger is here to talk about how women need to advocate for themselves for health care. She interviewed women for a book she wrote, and she discovered that women, in many ways, put themselves last and this needs to change. Women need to put themselves first and go to the doctor when they don’t feel well. She found that many people are unprepared when going to the doctor. It is advisable to write a list of all of your symptoms and medications you take. Many people get anxious at doctor visits so if you have a list, it will keep you on track. In her research, she found that a lot of women leave the appointment not understanding what the doctor was telling them and that they are embarrassed to ask questions. The more information and questions that you have, the better equipped you will be. Susan gives tips for women when the appointment doesn’t go as planned. Some of these tips include: emailing the doctor for follow up information, writing down what the doctor said so you can do your own research and get a second opinion from someone with different training.
Susan Salenger is the author and researcher behind SIDELINED: How Women Can Navigate A Broken Healthcare System. Sidelined examines the many ways in which some women manage and sometimes mismanage their healthcare. (Released, April 2022)
Susan explores how women, typically the medical gatekeepers for their families, tend to be extremely conscientious about taking care of themselves, yet at the same time inadvertently undermine their own care. They often hesitate to call the doctor when they don’t feel well and worry that their doctor visit will take time away from their families or work. They may hesitate to ask doctors the necessary questions and don’t always comply with the doctor’s instructions. Salenger’s research reveals how conflicted many women are about the medical decisions they ultimately make.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Susan attended UCLA to study English. After graduation, she worked alongside her husband Fred for 25 years at their production company, Salenger Films, which produced corporate training and development films distributed worldwide. Today, at age 81, Susan lives in Northern California to be near her incredible family which includes her two daughters, four grandchildren, a cat named Max and a dog named JD (Salenger). When she is not speaking about her book or spending time with family and friends, you will find Susan power lifting to stay in shape.

Her book Sidelined explores the various hurdles women must jump to get the healthcare they want. It examines the many ways in which women have been conditioned not to act in their own best interest when it comes to their health.
It shines a light on the cultural history and gender bias in the medical community that have helped put women in this position. And it offers women practical advice to help them recognize these biases and better navigate the patient-doctor relationship.

Dr. Prudence Hall is here to talk about the unique needs of women, specifically during menopause. How you manage your menopause and perimenopause will determine how you will feel for the remainder of your life. It is so important to be proactive in your health. Around the ages of 35-37 perimenopause usually begins. Some symptoms include: your periods coming closer together, not sleeping well, compulsive behavior, bloating, digestive issues, and mood changes. Around the ages of 44-49 menopause usually begins. It is imperative to handle your symptoms from the beginning and take the time to care for yourself. Women need to manage their hormonal state and keep a finger on the pulse of unhealthy aging. She helps women by measuring all of their various hormones. All hormones start to decrease during perimenopause at age 35. By correcting hormones that are deficient and making these changes will help women feel youthful.

Udo Erasmus is here to talk about total health. He first started looking into healthy oils, digestion, and the importance of eating greens. However, he discovered that everything affects health, and in that insight, he started to look at all components of human nature. He says that if you want optimum health, there are eight parts. The first part is internal awareness, this is a stillness practice in a safe place. When you can deeply, quietly and gently breathe, you will notice a calmness, contentment there. He then discusses the other elements of health, which are: peace and a flow of love, the shine of the love in the world, a positive mind, the body, a protective mind, your social group, and the natural environment. If you want total health, you need to be aware and nurture all eight.
The legendary Udo Erasmus is the co-founder of Udo’s Choice line, which can be found in Whole Foods and other health food stores worldwide. Udo designed the machinery for making oils with health in mind and pioneered flax oil, a billion dollar industry. However, Udo walked a difficult path to become the man he is today. Being a child of war, Udo’s life began with intense struggle. As an adult, he got pesticide poisoning in 1980, leaving doctors at a loss regarding treatment. Deciding to take his health into his own hands, Udo began researching, and his discoveries led him to a passion for finding the answers to life’s big questions which would hopefully one day bring him and the world peace.
Today, Udo is an acclaimed speaker and author of many books, including the best-selling Fats That Heal Fats That Kill, which has sold over 250,000 copies. He teaches at events hosted by Tony Robbins and Deepak Chopra, has keynoted an international brain health conference, and has traveled to over 30 countries to conduct thousands of live presentations, media interviews, and staff trainings impacting more than 25,000,000 lives with his message on oils, health, peace, nature, and human nature. Udo has an extensive education in biochemistry, genetics, biology, and nutrition, including a master’s degree in counseling psychology.

Udo Erasmus is here to talk about healthy oils. He describes our bodies as a major construction site. Some people say 98% of the time, the atoms in our bodies turn over and are removed and replaced every year. Our bodies need essential nutrients to be healthy. If you are not getting enough, your health will deteriorate, but you can reverse this. You need to be conscious of what you are bringing into your body. He became very interested in learning about how oils are made and discovered that the processing of oils was damaging the nutrients. He discusses how Omega 3 and Omega 6 are both essential to your body, but if you are getting one more than the other, it can be damaging, and you need a better ratio. If you have the right nutrients, your energy and skin will be better. He created oils with health in mind and with the right ratio of Omegas.

There are big differences between girls' and boys' hygiene. It is important that we educate and show our tweens and teens how to care for themselves. Mental health and depression can be tied into low self esteem from skin issues. Acne can be a result of hormonal changes, genetic components, and how your immune system responds to bacteria. We can help our kids by having them wash their face twice a day with a gentle cleanser, and make sure to keep the products simple, hypoallergenic, and fragrance free. Tess Jewell-Larsen is here today to talk about how she empowers women from feeling exhausted to finding balance. It is so easy to get caught up in our thoughts. She focuses on where these women are lacking or overdoing something, and she tries to help them find one thing they can do for themselves to get to a balanced state. It is important to feel all emotions and allow them to be there, and not push them away. When we don’t process these emotions, it can cause unease. Processing can be done through many different avenues, such as: gardening, movement, talking, and drawing. We need to be fully aware and find what nourishes us. By making tiny changes in our lives, it can affect how we show up.
Tess Jewell-Larsen empowers women professionals, entrepreneurs and juggling-it-all’ers to go from exhausted and overwhelmed to balanced and thriving. Tess is a certified mindfulness coach, somatic healer and a Yoga Therapist in training.
